Thomson HD and Sky+ parts | ![]() Soldering iron available | |
| To access the SkyHD PSU you need to remove the fan, which is held by "rubber pins". The original "rubber pins" are not currently available and may never be. However, we offer plastic screws instead. Most people manage to refit the original "rubber pins" (with the tails cut off) by lubricating and pulling through with a loop of fishing line. The screws are offered as "insurance" in case you can't do this. (The Sky+ model has no fan to remove so screws or pins are not required.) |

| FANS, HARD DRIVES and TUNER MODULES Because Thomson has apparently pulled its operations out of the UK, we can no longer obtain any Thomson-specific spare parts. The TUNER rarely fails - "No Signal" symptoms are usually caused by the PSU or Hard Drive. (We do not supply Hard Drives or tuner modules.) The FANS do fail. If you are desperate, we may be able to supply a very similar fan (the one next to the power supply) but you would have to cut the plug off the old one and solder the wires to the new fan. If you want to order one, please contact TECHNICAL. Before you get too desperate, try peeling back the label and putting a drop of thin oil on the spindle. "Is my tuner faulty?" First replace or upgrade the power supply, since this can cause a "tuner fault" symptom. If that doesn't help, our suggestion is to unplug and swap the tuner modules over to see if the fault follows the suspect one. If it does, then a replacement tuner should be the answer. If the fault remains with the same input, then it's obviously not the tuner at fault. Unplug mains connection before opening equipment. Observe normal precautions to guard against zapping the tuner with static electricity. | ![]() | |
Typical symptom: Channels with strong signals (Movies/Sports) are beginning to pixellate badly.
Clock races ahead so you get future recordings "failed".
Box stuck in standby (could also be Hard Drive failure).

KIT! Soldering iron available Power supply repair and reliability upgrade KIT for Thomson Sky+ and Sky-HD Digibox power supplies DSI6210 / DSI8210 / DSI8215 only (suffix irrelevant). See http://notonyourtelly.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6416#6416 for discussion. Have a look at resistor R15. If it has blown, the PSU has had a major blow-up (dead). Check the fuse. If this is blackened, the PSU has had a major blow-up (dead). This indicates damage that our RELKIT capacitor upgrade kit alone will not fix. You will need the RELKIT and the SATKIT. Set item quantity to zero if not required. Although not strictly necessary, this kit is more capable of handling start-up surges from the Hard Drive. Upgrade your MKI kit to MKII by substituting two capacitors.
Plastic screws

Downloadable instructions provided. Parts require soldering.

Complete REBUILT power supply.
Suitable for all Thomson Sky+ and Sky-HD Digiboxes.
KIT CONTENTS: In general RELKITS (Reliability upgrade kits) contain only capacitors. SATKITS (supplementary repair kits) contain semiconductors, fuse, resistors to be soldered. For a complete repair you may need both. Please note that a "kit" is not a complete power supply unit (PSU). Where a complete power supply unit is offered, it will be clearly stated and will not say "kit". (For non-English speakers, a "kit" is a bag of components - in German this is "reparatur Ersatzteile").

Various symptoms including:
|
| The usual cause of failure is the 2200uF/6.3V capacitor (I don't currently know the PCB designation - maybe someone can let me know - but it's the only capacitor of that value.) You will probably observe that the aluminium top of the capacitor is bulging slightly. |

Vision Multiswitch PSU repair kit RELKIT50 comprising C103, C106, C202, C203 for the V75-516S multiswitch.
(We are not certain whether this kit is suitable for other models but, if your PSU capacitors have the same numbers, it probably is.)

Modem to phone socket cable 3 metres long approx. All Sky Digiboxes.
Panasonic D814 diode in power supply. If Digibox is "stuck in standby" or LEDs are flickering, disconnect one end of D814. If Digibox now works, the protection diode is faulty and should be replaced before you use the Digibox again. If the diode fails again, it's likely that it's simply doing its job of protecting from overvoltage, so you should get the PSU repaired. In any case, we recommend you get a professional repairer to measure the PSU voltages.

Cabinet Cooling Fans (pair)
The fans require a maximum of 12 volts dc (red is positive) which you can obtain from a small "plug-top" dc power unit.
I recommend providing each fan with around 9 volts. They will last longer and run quieter.
You can use screws but the fans run quieter if you can mount them flexibly - I use silicone bath sealant - but be VERY careful not to get it on the fan blades.
You don't need to suck vast quantities of air through the cabinet - simply keep it moving gently. That way you get the cooling flow without dragging in dust like a vacuum cleaner! For more details please click here.
Kit contains: two fans, screw terminal connector and printed instructions. No soldering required.

Miniature low-noise cooling fan kit
Increases reliability by circulating the air inside your receiver and removing those "hot spots" of stagnant air which cause overheating. If low noise is essential, simply mount it upright in an open area of the printed circuit board, using the double-sided adhesive foam strip (supplied).
If noise is not a problem then you can remove the little plate from the rear panel and fit it there with screws or glue. Kit includes fan, resistor, adhesive pads and printed instructions. Requires soldering.
The fan is guaranteed for 12 months. If it stops or becomes too noisy then we'll send you a new one without question or charge. (If it does become noisy, please try blowing any dust off it. You can also peel back the plastic film cover at the rear and apply one drop of thin oil to the spindle). More Info
General purpose cooling fan kit with instructions for most Sky Digiboxes (below)
If Panasonic is "stuck in standby" only after warming up (and above diode is OK) or if Panasonic "jumps channels" or does other strange things, then the CPU is probably overheating. If caught in time, the CPU cooling kit may save it:

When my own Sling Box failed, I discovered that it had been running too hot for a year!
Save yours by fitting this fan.

Where noise could be a problem, fitting the heatsink will still improve reliability of your Panasonic Digibox, provided that you keep it in a cool room.
Kit includes heatsink, glue, heat transfer compound and printed instructions.

Regulated "plug top" power supply for fans (converts 230v AC to a switched selection of low DC voltages). An alternative to connecting the fan to the receiver's internal power. Also suitable for cabinet cooling fans.
