problem | av to rf converter I want to get a DVD player but my TV is so old that it only has an aerial socket on the back. Is there any cheap way of connecting the two? Would it work if I got the budget RF Modulator that I've seen on your site, and using an aerial lead from this to my TV, with a scart to scart cable connecting the RF Modulator to the DVD player? It will work fine but you'll get vastly better picture quality from a TV with a Scart input. If you want stereo audio, be sure to connect the DVD audio output through a proper surround-sound system. An RF Modulator can only give mono audio. (The same answer applies to a Freeview receiver that has no built-in RF Modulator). What's the difference between "RF loopthrough" and "RF Modulator"? "RF loopthrough" means that the receiver passes the aerial signal straight through. "RF Modulator" means that the receiver passes the aerial signal straight through and adds its own programme to it. Obviously its output channel must be set so that it doesn't conflict with the aerial-borne channels. This is explained in detail in our eBook "Piping TV Around the House". (An "RF Modulator" takes a video and audio signal and combines them on a carrier frequency to make a TV signal).
