What is Spam Controls?

This Spam Controls Settings page is separated by two sections, "AOL's Advanced Spam Filter" and "Additional Spam Filters."

The section "AOL's Advanced Spam Filter" allows you to set the level of spam protection to Off, Low, Medium, or High. Setting the protection level to "Off" will deliver all messages into your New Mail folder, whereas setting the protection level to "High" will deliver virtually all spam into the Spam folder, or automatically delete the spam (depending on your Settings). We recommend that you set "AOL's Advanced Spam Filter" to OFF, at least temporarily, while you place your order with SatCure. Leave it off until you have received our replies and personal confirmation that your order will be despatched.

The section "Additional Spam Filters" allows you control over the mail that is delivered into the New Mail folder. Selecting the first button, "Control Who I Get Mail From," brings up a window that allows or blocks mail from different senders. There are also other settings, "Allow mail only from senders on my Custom Sender List" and "Block mail from all senders on my Custom Sender List" that allows you to specify which mail are allowed and which mail is blocked from a particular sender.

In the "Additional Spam Filters" section is another button called, "Control What Is In The Mail I Get." When selected, a window is displayed from which you can choose to receive mail with clickable hyperlinks (URLs), block mail containing pictures or files, and move mail with certain words and phrases into the Spam folder.

The final setting on this page helps direct where to deliver the spam. The dropdown menu "Blocked mail should be:," when selected, gives you the choice of delivering spam to the spam folder or permanently deleting the spam once it's received.

How to set Spam Controls

  1. Open a web browser, login to AOL and click the Settings tab in your AOL window.
  2. Click the Spam Controls link on the left to open that page.
  3. Under AOL's Advanced Spam Filter, click one of the four radio buttons that corresponds to the spam protection level desired. AOL's Advanced Spam Filter will automatically move junk mail and unwanted mail into your Spam folder or delete it. This process is simple, automatic, and personalized based on how you use mail. The default, recommended setting is Medium. For more information on Spam and Junk Mail, see AOL Keyword: Junk Mail.

  7. We recommend you Allow mail from ALL senders, at least temporarily until your SatCure order has been processed.

  8. Click on Control What Is In The Mail I Get and, if desired, place a check mark in the boxes next to Mail with clickable hyperlinks (URLs), Block mail containing pictures or files, or Mail containing words or phrases on my Custom Word List. See note below about Custom Word List. IMPORTANT: Placing a check mark in the Mail with clickable hyperlinks (URLs) box also affects sending messages, so only turn it on if you don't need to send hyperlinks in your messages.
  9. Click Save to have the changes applied, or Cancel to discard your changes.

Notes:

  • Visibility of the Spam folder in all Teen and Kid accounts will depend on the General Account's Parental Controls settings.
  • Placing a check mark in the Mail with clickable hyperlinks (URLs) box also affects sending messages, so only turn it on if you don't need to send hyperlinks in your messages.
  • A Custom Sender List is a personalized list of screen names, email addresses, or entire domains that you can have blocked or allowed into your New Mail folder (or Inbox, depending on your Settings).
  • A Custom Word List is a personalized list of words or phrases that will be used to determine what will be done with an incoming message. If a word on this list is found in an incoming message, it'll be moved into the Spam Folder automatically. You can use wildcards in the Custom Word List. Type the asterisk sign (*) in a word to allow partial matches to be moved to the Spam folder. Example: Type "*berry" and the Custom Word List will move email containing words such as "strawberry" and "cranberry" to the Spam folder. This is a powerful tool, so please use it carefully to avoid missing any desired emails.
  • You can report junk mail and block future emails from the sender right from your mailbox. Select an email and click Report Spam. The email will be moved to the Spam folder.

Once you are certain that you can receive SatCure replies, please return to the shopping cart and type your email address with an asterisk (*) instead of "aol.com". For example, if your real email address is johnsmith@aol.com please type your address as johnsmith@*

If possible please also provide an alternative email address.

You should receive our automatic replies within 5 minutes.

If you do not receive our replies, please check your "Spam" folder.

If our replies are not there, please contact us immediately with an alternative (not AOL) email address.

IMPORTANT: For many of our products and eBooks we provide a link to an information download page. The web browser provided by AOL sometimes has problems in downloading files, directing you to "AOL shopping" or just plain failing to download properly. Please install the free "Firefox" browser and use that instead.
