NewsThanks Gosh, you are such nice people! I can't believe the response I received to my previous monthly whinge about Psoriasis. People have suggested everything from prescription drugs (which my wife won't let me take) to hypnosis (which I'm seriously considering). I think that stress is a big part of the problem and I'm doing my best to reduce my stress levels. (So if you send me a complaint and receive a response like "yeah, whatever", you'll know why!) Anyway, I have given up on the Chinese medicine. The latest batch gave me stomach ache and my osteopath warned me that at least one Chinese herbal cure for psoriasis worked very well but could potentially cause kidney failure. Suddenly I'm feeling happier about my scabby appearance. At least I'm still alive! If anyone else is considering treatment for Psoriasis, please read this page: I will shortly be travelling to foreign parts for a holiday. In an attempt to relax, I'm bringing in Mark to answer technical enquiries. Please be gentle with him. Monthly whinge Don't you just hate it when the driver in front of you spots a camera and slams on the brakes? Some twit did that to me last week. I was just catching up with a car doing 50mph in a 60mph limit. He suddenly slammed on his brakes and slowed to about 30mph. I had nowhere to go except past him. I reckon he was a little surprised that I overtook him right next to the camera but the alternative was to ride in his boot. That'll teach me to keep my distance! Emailing me Several people complained that they couldn't find my email address. Well, that's not surprising because I never publish it. This has been my policy for several years and it results in zero spam. If you want to contact us about a technical or sales matter, please use the appropriate form here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/email.htm If you want to contact me about a personal matter, please use the form here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/email_martin.htm If you want a reply, please check and double-check that you typed your email address correctly. I receive at least two messages per week with mistyped email addresses and sometimes I can't guess what they are supposed to be. I realise that, for some of you, it's a pain to use a web-based email form and sometimes (if you ask really nicely) I'll let you know my personal email address when I reply. However, preventing me from receiving spam is in your own interest. In the past I received so much junk mail that I sometimes overlooked messages from real people. The web form incorporates a spam filter. It checks the message and refuses to send it if it looks as if it was typed by a 5 year old. The software is pretty accurate. In almost every instance, during tests, I found that I couldn't understand the bad message anyway, so there was no point in letting it through. However, if you are really lexically challenged, you can post your message in the forum where, hopefully, somebody cleverer than I will be able to interpret it. Thomson Sky HDWe continue to receive lots of enquiries about the power supply for this model. Please refer to the information page, here before contacting us: You can put comments/questions in the discussion forum:- http://notonyourtelly.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=9 Freeview ProblemsMany people are still reporting that performing a channel re-scan has resulted in, for example, all the channel numbers from multiplexes 1 and 2 disappearing. They now all appear as channel 000 and all in the 800s in the EPG 9and other symptoms). We covered this problem last month:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/reviews/review119.htm#03 Sony have apparently been running firmware updates and you'll find discussions on the various forums. Daewoo have NO updates but are offering discounts on new receivers and, in a few cases, free replacements. Other Freeview problems are covered here:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/freeview_problems.htm More and more people are ordering the Vision V10-04 log-periodic aerial from us. This is the only true "wideband digital aerial" and, judging by the lack of complaints, must be solving a lot of problems! However, we would like your feedback so, if you bought one, please let us know the results. More information about aerials here:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/best_aerial.htm New Products
The Global SPS1 is no more! However, we have a possible replacement on its way. New Sky Digiboxes available now! (Pace Sky+HD expected soon.) Free eBooks with every Digibox. Questions- a selection from this month's emails Re: Wiring question - help from ROBERT - Ticket: TE91532 What cable and two F connectors should I buy from you to run from my Sky dish to a Panasonic digibox? I see several different sizes and I am a bit confused as to what I need to order from you. Thanks a lot, Robert ROBERT
Hi, Robert. The reason for the choice of sizes is that we can't guess the distance from your dish to your Digibox. Therefore we give you a choice of lengths (and colours). Please read our cable information page then select the cable/length/colour which suits your requirements. http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/cable.htm
Thanks for reply, I meant the diameter of the cable, sorry. Basically what cable would be good about 15 metres for outside use, and two F connectors Thanks, Robert ROBERT
Hi, Robert. If you read the page I directed you to, you'll see it says:- "Which cable should I use? But I DO recommend you read the entire page in order to gain at least a basic understanding of the choices. Best Wishes, Martin My location is: Elgin I am about to purchase a quad LNB from yourselves but want to check before hand if the Pace BSKYB 2200 digibox will be able to power the LNB. I am looking to eventually connect a Humax Freesat PVR using 2 connections. regards Craig S Hi, Craig. All Sky Digiboxes are compatible with all "universal" LNBs (with one exception - Panasonic - as noted on our web pages.) However, the BSKYB2200 is old and slow and I'm surprised it's still working. I threw mine away 6 years ago. Best Wishes, Martin I have a funny fault on my sky+ box and wonderd if you could shed some light on it. When box is on it all works perfectly, but when you turn box off for more than 30-45mins it takes two presses of sky button to come on the first press dosnt respond on front of box but second one will. When box comes on it always reverts to channel 998 and aslo the remote eye power light goes on and off intermitantly do I ned a rel kit for my psu or maybe a new one compleatly?. Have rest software in box, house kept box, and also tested new lnb with swires digisat 204. ian b. Hi, Ian. These power supplies often need capacitor kits and it wouldn't do any harm. But the only way to be sure is:- a) inspect capacitors for bulging Best Wishes, Martin I have recent bought a couple of "TV Aerial" leads from you - only to discover that my wall plates have male IEC connectors on the UHF port. The VHF has the more usual IEC socket. So, I now need 3 off 2m metre length WF100 cables (white) with Male connectors on one end and female on the other. Ian T. Hi, Ian. You forgot to order the male ->female adapter (to convert a male TV plug). http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page7.htm#rfleads Same as "COLCM - male/female adapter". http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page7.htm#tvplugs In addition I would like 2 off 3 metre lengths WF100 cables (white) with Male IEC on one end (soldered centre pin) but with an F connector (male) on the other. Can you do these? If so what will the price be please? See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page7.htm#rfleads Order with two male IEC but add a note in the shopping cart: "PLEASE FIT F PLUG TO ONE END OF EACH WHITE CABLE". Equipment made by: Panasonic Sky Hi I have just bought an ebook from you SAT030264 (installing Sky and freesat) Would you be kind enough to explain how best to connect the following items together, Sony KDL324000 TV (with Sky+ cable extension from sky+ box in another room plugged into aerial socket on tv). Sony DAV230 dvd player and surround sound system (connected to tv by a scart lead). Panasonic TU-DSB30 digibox. I intend to buy all I need from you (cable, connectors etc.) once I know exactly what to do. Thank you, Robert W.
Hi, Robert. Basically, you'll need Scart leads of the appropriate length. http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/goldscart.htm I assume you've made all the LNB and RF connections. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with your equipment so I recommend you put your question in the following forum where enthusiasts will help you get it right. Be sure to state exactly what connections the equipment has (especially how many Scart sockets on each) and what you want to achieve. If your DAV230 is actually a DVD recorder and you wish to record, be sure to explain that. When posting your question you must confirm that you have first tried this "Connection Advisor": http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/connecthelp.php Forum: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?board=tvtech (There are other forums but this seems to be the best for connection advice.) Best Wishes, Martin
Happy Customers
Re Sky zone2 mini dish I recently installed and set up one of these, mainly for freesat; fitted the LNB that came with it and, after about an hour, received a very good signal and a quality of about 95%. I reckon the problem I have been having with the old original sky dish, which frequently dropped the picture when it rained, has now been almost completely put away permanently. The dish was fitted easily, seems to be pretty strong, and should last very well. Setting up was easy using a meter to peak the input from the dish and, all told, a very satisfying experience, which worked 100%. Good value and worth trying if the small mini dish seems lacking or is old like mine was! Doug W Hi Martin, The Triax TR77S wall mount arrived this morning at 7.15am, in a box with a diagram on it. It is the same bracket as in the picure uploaded by the customer with whom you put me in touch. A much neater solution. Just wanted to say thank you for your valuable time and the effort you put in to resolve the problem. It was the honest advice on the website that led me to the decision to order from Satcure; the help you have given reaffirms that decision. The only downside, the difficulty with AOL. If you think I need new spitbolts let me know, otherwise I'm sure I'll be in touch again with something a little more interesting and technical. Regards, Chris Thanks, Chris. A lot of AOL users have problems with the AOL spam filter system. Equipment made by: Thomson Hi guys, received the capacitor kit yesterday and soldered in last night. Cured my problem with Thompson HD box. Would like to thank you and your excellent team for the service. Many thanks Dave D I mean it. Honest. I don't know any other retailer that would send me a personal reply at 20 past midnight which solves my problem with no fuss or bother. Many, many thanks. I will do my level best to recommend you to as many people as I can! Best Wishes, Paul I just wanted to congratulate you on a great service. Good comms, lot's of helpful info on your website, and v. fast dispatch. Good stuff. My Sky HD box wouldn't come out of standby, and was making a weird squelchy sort of buzzing noise. Even though there was no visible evidence of capacitor failure (no bulging at all), I took a leap of faith and ordered your repair kit. After replacing all the capacitors last night, with those from your kit, my box is back. It's early days yet but so far, so good. Best wishes, and thanks! John RELKIT33j Capacitor kit for Thomson SkyHD Qty Parts arrived Saturday morning, soldered in in 20 mins up and running in 30 mins. Thanks for a great Service!
