If you find this information useful and want to thank me, why not buy one of my low-cost "eBooks" that you can download direct to your computer? My books can be read on-screen or printed out on paper. They are full of colour photos and illustrations. http://www.The-Cool-Book-Shop.co.uk
Lazy me! It's a short one this month because I've been away on holiday. Warranty EU regulation was issued some time ago to give consumers better protection in the event that purchases are not up to scratch. In effect, this means that you have the right to have goods repaired, replaced or refunded up to two years after purchase. (SatCure complies with these regulations.) Make money With the recession starting to hit jobs, we've had quite a few more people signing up for our "Digital Installer" course. You can learn how to make money, plus the technical and practical aspects which would otherwise need to be learned "on the job". The "digital switchover" is upon us and there's plenty of work for anyone who can carry and climb a ladder! There is other news but I decided to avoid mentioning the words "Manchester" or "United". Why can't people READ? Each order generates an automatic email entitled "SatCure Please Keep-me" which begins "THIS MESSAGE MAY CONTAIN WEB PAGE LINKS TO IMPORTANT PRODUCT INSTRUCTION PAGES WHICH MUST BE READ IMMEDIATELY! PLEASE LOOK BELOW! Please also CHECK the item list carefully, and FILE this receipt somewhere safe." So why do I get at least one complaint per day that "you didn't send me any instructions!" or "I have deleted the message, please send it again."? Also, every day we receive at least one order with a non-working email address. Have people not heard of "copy/paste"? Alternatively, why not pin your email address to the wall in front of you if you can't remember it? Sheesh! PSU Repairers Can recommend Tom Carson in Seascale - Very happy with the repair and the turnaround time. Andy Smith. Ed Skingsley, Preston, Lancashire, came and replaced my PSU in my HD with a pre-upgraded unit. Top notch service, very knowledgeable and friendly. Swapped out in less than 30 mins at my home on a weekend. Highly recommended. - Tony Murphy. See our list of repairers here: http://www.satcure.net/psu_fix.htm If you know someone who can do PSU repairs, why not recommend him? None - again! That's right - leave me to do ALL the work! If you have anything of interest to contribute, please contact me with details. What have you installed? What problems have you had? have you been ripped off? Tell us all about it. I'll be your "agony aunt!" Lower cost Twin 'F' connector plate Right-angle HDMI connector for TVs with limited room. HDMI coupler for joining two cables. Lower cost 20dB attenuator. Adapter allows you to fit "Edison Screw" (ES) bulbs into "Bayonet" sockets. Battery voltage checker (applies a load for more accurate indication of battery capacity.) Illuminated magnifying lens. Comprehensive tool kit. Tool kit with multimeter and soldering iron. Soldring iron with stand, solder and sucker. Thanks to Julie for pointing out an eBay seller "topgunmillionaires" who is offering MY eBooks for sale on CD. He even had the gall to use the exact description from the SatCure web site. http://tinyurl.com/oqt5np By the time you read this, eBay should have removed this auction but you can read the PDF version. Although the seller states that his offerings are "public domain" I can see some (including mine) which are definitely not. - a selection from this month's emails (If you are a new subscriber I'm afraid that you might find some of my replies a little blunt to the point of being rude. That's just the way I am after answering customers' questions for the last fourteen years. Please don't take offence. Sometimes I'm a little tired, ratty or impatient and it shows! Generally, if you ask for a free reply, you'll get what you pay for.) Hello everyone at the SatCure forum I was wondering if someone inhere who has the new HD EPG would please try and help me out, so that I am able to add, and access other channels through this new interface? My sky pace HD box got the new EPG this morning. I have tried to get to know the new interface ever since. Being blind, however, this is not as easy as it probably is for sighted people, as I am not able to see the actual new menu system on screen. In sted, I have to find and memorize the new button presses etc.. By trawling through various forums, I've now managed to find out how to navigate the new Sky Planner, how to access series stacks, view trailers on anytime TV etc.. Unfortunately, this requires some more button presses than with the old EPG, but it is definitely dooable! The only thing, however, I can not seem to do, after the new EPG has been downloaded, is to add or access other channels. The button presses I used previously do not seem to work any more, which is quite frustrating, as I'd of course like to be able to watch the channels I've added manually, and I'd also like to add new channels like ITV HD to the lineup, which I've herd you can indeed do on a Sky HD box that has the new EPG! So my questions are: Can someone with the new EPG please tell me how to: Add channels manually? for instance ITV HD - key presses etc.? How to get into the other channels menu to watch added channels? key presses etc.. Other useful key presses you think it'll be great to know, like any mega changes etc. in the services menu. I do hope to be hearing from someone soon. All the best from Allan If anyone can answer this, please click here: http://notonyourtelly.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1988 I have a Analouge (sic) TV and it has 1 scart socket, I have bought a free satt box but when I connect it to the TV using the scart socket I get interferance (gosting) If I connect it using Yellow- Red and white leads the picture is perfect. Raymond B. -- See "Video Breakthrough":- http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/scarts2.htm#vb Richard M. See picture of LNB42 here:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page1a.htm#invacom On an offset-focus dish in Europe, the connectors point approximately down towards the ground. I didn't design it but I'd guess the reason is to minimise the chance of moisture ingress. Nevertheless, the connections must be waterproofed as shown:- http://www.satcure.net/tech/boots.htm I just bought a triax loft box from you and it will form part of a new scheme I am puitting in my house. Currently I am using the return path and distribution amplifer to distribute the RF output of my Virgin Media Samsung cable box to other outlets (prior to getting sky when I have some trees cut down!) Do you know if any of the coax based remote extenders will work using a Samsung box? Thanks Simon S. I think you'll have to use a tvLINK-Plus:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3.htm#tvlink-plus This direction has now been obscurred by new tree growth this year, and whenever the wind blows we are getting a "satellite signal is not being received" error message on the TV. Is there another direction (satellite?) in which I can point the dish to receive clear reception; or anything I can do to receive clear reception, other than install the satellite dish on the top of a 30 metre pole!? Many thanks, Leonard D. Hi, Leonard. Apart from a tall pole with guy wires, the only possible solution is to cut back the foliage each year to make a 1m diameter "tunnel" that provides a clear line of sight to the required satellite. Second Q - I plan to recable completely. The run is approx 18m. Would the WF100 twin be the best to use? Basically, I am spending a lot of money on a large plasma flatscreen and do not want to degrade the result by using inferior peripherals which are a minor cost in the project. I have not specified a digibox manufacturer as I do not yet know what I will end up with. Best Regards, Charles H. Hi, Charles. Sky also supply an OCTO (8 output LNB) for people who have four Sky+ or HD Digiboxes. How far you go towards "futureproofing" is up to you. You could, for example, install a QUATTRO LNB connected to a 16-output Multiswitch. Several of our customers with large houses have done this to provide two feeds to each of (up to) eight rooms. There is nothing magic about Invacom LNBs except that they work best in Spain and Cyprus with dishes over 2m diameter. As you are in the UK with a relatively small dish, there's no point in wasting money on a feature that you don't need. Go for the cheapest LNB, safe in the knowledge that it will be fine. WF100 cable is fine. Hi there, I purchased the above product from you on the 14th January 2009. Since I have only just moved into my house I have not had a chance to connect it up previously. Having followed the instructions and connected the system up I am having some problems with the clarity of the signal. All the secondary TV points in the house have diagonal ghost lines running down the screens when I am on the sky channel (68). When I disconnect and reconnect the cables it clears up but only for a couple of hours before it gradually returns. I have since then spoken to Triax technical support and run through all the possible diagnostics. The conclusion is that it is a faulty unit. I was advised by triax to request a replacement from yourselves. Please advise of this process. Thanks in advance Chris K. Sorry to hear of the problem, Chris. I will ask Sales to send you a replacement ASAP. Peter G. Unfortunately it can't. Sales will arrange to send you the correct LNB. We received an incorrect batch from our supplier and have only just discovered the mistake. Best Wishes, Martin Model number on label or rear panel: DSI8215 All went well with the full psu repair SATKIT and RELKIT until the new EPG arrived when I now get no signal from time to time and the only way of recovering seems to be unplugging the box for a few minutes and re-power. I have read on AVforums that you sent an email to one of your repair agents I don't recall that but give me more specific clues and I can search my "Sent messages". ...who had a simiular problem that this problem may not be the power supply but a "glitch" in the new EPG associated with the "mini TV". I could not find anything in your own forums about this and wonder if you have any further information on this as all had been fine until the new EPG. If you've read the forums you know as much as I do (probably more). The "single input mode" facility certainly seems to cause problems which may have nothing to do with the PSU. Model number on label or rear panel: DSI 4212C Sat Freeview. Channel 5 and sundry minor channels, Fiver US etc, gradually failed to "No satellite Signal". THIS MEANS MY WIFE MISSES NEIGHBOURS!!! Others channels are fine. Due to geography installation is odd. Dish is 60/70cm oval with a Philips SX719DS quad LNB. Cable is 70 metreswith a 20DB Amp at mid cable. I use one LNB connection, a neighbour uses another. He has no problems, but has a slightly shorter cable run (with no amp?). System is circa 3 yrs old. a "LADDER MONKEY" used his meter to adjust the dish alignment. Made no difference. I used the test on the digibox. Signal strength "zero", signal quality 70/80%. So I took a punt and replaced the 20Db Amp. Signal quality went to 90%, signal strength still zero. Still no Channel 5. Guessing it is something to do with vertical / horizontal polarity switching? Is it the digibox, LNB, whatever? Thanks Richard Freeview is the terrestrial system - nothing to do with satellite. Your Thomson Sky Digibox probably has the usual PSU capacitor fault. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/gds200.htm I need 20m of WF65 cable in white if possible could you let me know if you can supply this. Yes, it's here on the cable page: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page8.htm#shotcut I need to purchase a Wireless Magic Eye for my new loft room to pick up signal from my Skyplus box in the lounge. There are no cables for the TV - can you recommend a magic eye that allows for this. many thanks Caroline Wireless devices use extremely low power, which won't pass through some structures (such as aluminium foil-backed plasterboard ceilings), so there's no guarantee unless you can use, for example, a DECT portable phone for testing the feasibility before purchase. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/extenders.htm I need to replace the LNB/feedhorn holder (black plastic) assembly on my channel master 90 dish, as it appears to have cracks appearing when the feed support arms slot into it. Can you please confirm if the item in your catalogue: CH48 LNB bracket kit for channel Master 90cm - 1.2m dish Is the correct replacement for this, and does it include the screws ? Thanks Muralee CH48 is the black moulded LNB holder in this picture: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page2.htm#channel Here's a slightly better picture, which shows why painting the dish is a good idea! <http://www.abaerials.com/images/domestic%20Completed%20jobs/1-4mtrfront.JPG> I'm fairly sure that screws are included. This freeview box worked perfectly at my last address DL16 [Pontop Pike transmitter] but since moving to HG4 [Bilsdale transmitter] it does not pick up ITV, ITV2, Channel 4 etc in their channel normal positions. ie ITV should be channel 3 however it appears as channel 801. Why is this? thanks, Will S. Because you haven't rescanned the channels? See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/terindex.htm Alternative email address- none Hi placed order with you last Wednesday (3 days delivery) as yet not received, is there a problem? Cheers, C L T. You chose "Paypal" but don't appear to have paid yet. Please read instructions in your "Keep-me" email. Thanks John Yes, John. It is springy. A little grease on the threads will make it last longer if you are using it a lot. Many Thanks, Dave Unfortunately, you are mistaken. We don't stock valves of any type. Nigel M. It's not feasible to fit more than one LNB to a Sky minidish and I don't see what you'd achieve by doing so. I suspect what you really want is our LNB upgrade kit. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/easier.htm We can also supply a complete new (larger) complete dish kit: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page2.htm#zone2 RF2to 2nd tv. 2nd tv is Technika 42-502. Iam getting 10 volts at cable end. Switching from remote I am receiving BBC 1&2 ITV 4 5 OK, through TV button. Switching again to DTV I receive Freeview, dont get ITV. I have an outside ariel plugged into Sky+ box. Problem is I do not get Sky. Sky is received ok on main tv while on 2nd tv I can get Freeview. 2nd tv is about 20ft. away. I have done the 4 0 1 thing several times. I have auto tuned the 2nd tv several times. thanks for listening, J R S You don't state on which UHF channel you have set your RF2 output. Sounds as if you've left it on the default channel 68, which may not be appropriate. Set it to an unused channel then re-scan the TV. I would like to change this single point LNB to a quad to add Freesat+ in another room of my house. Please can you advise the LNB I would need and your product number for this item. Kind regards Daniel S. It looks rather like this one: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page1.htm#quad Also see http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/easier.htm Please measure the arm aperture to make sure. Looking to buy a Panasonic G10 lcd tv with built in freesat HD which will use up 1 of the 2 free connections on the existing quad LNB. Because I will move the existing HD ready TV to another room and would like to have twin tuner freesat hd PVR I reckon I need 2 more LNB connections but look like I'd only have 1. Am I correct and is there any solution? Many thanks Jim How about an OCTO LNB? http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page1.htm#octo (Has a pull-down cover so no boots or tape required.) I work in Telford, could I bring it in to be repaired, or pick up replacement parts direct from yourselves ? Regards, Herdip We don't do repairs. Please use the form to contact David in Trench:- http://www.satcure.net/psu_fix.htm Yes, it's with the rest of our wall plates on the web page. http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/extender_plate.htm Also I would appreciate some advice. I ordered 200m of this cable for my satellite feeds: (link to rival web site provided.) Is that cable ok? It might be but it's impossible to say because the page doesn't state the make/type or give any specifications. That's a bit worrying! Also, how will you know which 'F' plugs will fit properly? See http://www.glodark.com/cable.htm and http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/cable.htm and http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page7.htm#fconn (I won't embarrass him.) I have now come to fit this and found I need my "keep-me" reference to access the instructions, unfortunately I have deleted the reference (oops sorry!). So was wondering if you could resend me my keep me reference. Yes, done. I have now purchased a new TV and moved its location so I still have three TV's, two being operated via magic eyes, however, for some reason I can receive sky on the two TV's operated by magic eye but I can't change the channels with the sky plus remote (except if operated from the main box). The led light on the magic eyes are Illuminated. The TV's operated perfectly for a short while but then failed me. Dave P. So you don't know the make/model of your Digibox or TV but you think I might guess? And I assume you didn't buy the magic eyes from SatCure and you can't get help from the original seller? <sigh> OK, I'm a sucker. Please download and read our comprehensive instructions here:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/tvlink2.htm If the fault cause isn't obvious after you've read the document, read it again and carry out the checks in the order given. A logical approach will lead to a successful result. Does this have loop-through facility/ i.e. can in be used as part of a chain carrying other RF Signals. Best All our modulators loop-through. Just wanted to say thanks very much for your website which I just visited for the first time: I think it's wonderful! Congratulations! I haven't bought anything yet becuase I am still trying to figure out what I need. But I'll be back with an order sometime soon! Thanks again and best regards. Tim J. Yours sincerely, Mrs M C. I placed my order yesterday morning and it was delivered yesterday teatime. Now that is what I call fast. Thanks again. Mr Tomlinson That's it for another month, folks! Questions
From a blind viewer:-
The new Invacom Quad LNB (LNB42) which I am considering buying apparently has horizontal connectors. Is there a reason for this? Which way do they project when the unit is correctly mounted and viewed from in front of the dish?
Hi Martin,
My house is closely surrounded by very tall trees on three sides, and we only get SKY satellite reception through a small gap in these trees. Our dish points at the Astra satellite at 28.2 degrees East of South at approx. 25 degrees above horizontal.
I am about to buy an HD TV and upgrade my satellite system to Sky HD+. I have a standard 90cm dish with a standard 40mm clamp for the LNB. My existing LNB is single output so I have to change it. I have in mind to order from you a Universal Intacom which you seem to recommend as the best performer around. The LNB41 twin output would do the job right now but my question is - Since the Sky minidish comes with a quad ouput LNB, is that a clue that there may be some future update from Sky requiring the "spare" outputs? I would rather spend a bit extra now as "insurance" than have to do another replacement.
TR84K Triax DDU-SERIES 8 WAY LOFT BOX (inc PSU)
Hi, I received the parts however the LNB does not fit my dish? It is an oval sky mini dish as per the product description however the new LNB arm is slightly too wide for the exisitng arm/bracket on the dish so it is not a direct replacement, how can this be made to fit my dish??

Hi There!
Hi,
humax twin tuner/recorder
Because your aerial system is faulty/incorrect?
Regarding Customer receipt (Keep-me):
Just a quick question about connecting to a signal meter. Does the F type adaptor 090-3636, just push over the threads on the meter?
Hi, I see that you have EL83 valves in stock, could you please let me know who the manufacturer of these is.
I currently have Freesat from Sky, feeding a Panasonic DVD/HDD recorder which upscales to an HD television. I want to convert the Sky dish to more than 1 LNB and buy another decoder to feed a 2nd TV, perhaps a Humax, preferably one which can also record. Can you supply the kit and can you please give me a price - approx will do for now. Thanks.
Model number on label or rear panel: TDS470NB
I have uploaded a picture of my Satellite Dish to your server.
I already have Sky+ and use the PVR function extensively.
My Thomson Sky HD box is showing classic signs of failing PSU, pixelated channels, dropping sound, no access to some channels just blue screen.
I am installing sky and need an F-Type wall plate for the 2 LNB feeds and 1 return (which will go from the Sky box to the TV-Link 8 way distributor in the corridor). In my last house the builders fitted a 4 way F-Type plate and used 3 of the F-type connections for this set-up. Maybe your faceplate with 2 F-types and 2 Coaxial will do the trick? If so, what bits do I need to make it all silver? OR do you have a 4 way F-Type plate?
On the 19 April 2009, I ordered the satcure Thomson Sky+ and Sky-HD PSU capacitor upgrade kit RELKIT 33j. I used Paypal to pay and the address was![]()
I have a sky plus system installed and have been running two extra TV's with the aid of magic eyes.
