Discovery Real Time is re-running the second series of Brian and Andrew's exploits in the Greek island of Crete. Sky is increasing the amount of "clutter" on-screen, in the form of adverts and banners. A lot of you are annoyed and there's a discussion here that you might like to join: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=1217238 How many of you support Sky by calling their installers "engineers" when most of them have no engineering qualifications whatsoever? It really irritates me that I had to waste three years at university to get my engineering degree and take two dozen exams, while a Sky "engineer" gets the title after a fortnight of (very basic) training and a simple test! THANK YOU I would like to express my gratitude for your prompt and efficient service. I am sure I received the Thomson Sky+HD power supply before you received my old one! The information provided on your web site encourages inexperienced people to try simple repairs. My family were impressed that I could fix our HD box in less than an hour. One tip: I found that a little furniture polish rubbed on the rubber studs was enough to allow me to firmly push the fan into position. I am really glad I didn't take the 'easy' option of calling in Sky, it would have been irritating, to say the least, if the reconditioned box failed after their minimal warranty expired. Jerry M. Horizontal resolution varies. BBC HD, ITV 1 HD and Luxe HD use 1440 pixels and the DVB-S2 transponders have the full 1920 pixels. In fact there are always 1088 lines (to make a multiple of 16 but theres no video info in the last 8). (Answer by Graham Thomson) Mike. No, we found them unreliable. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/cable.htm#connectors My location is: Portugal I'm not familiar with that model. Use a Pace BSKYB2600. It's the best for fringe area reception. 70% signal strength, 60% Quality strength. Purchased and installed recently a thomson SKY HD model 902020, I'm not familiar with that model. Perhaps you mean DSI8215? signal level 50% quality 40%. Using 1.4M dish and twin Invacom 0.3Db LNB feeder. How can I improve on the signal strength without having to upgrade to a larger dish. You could pray for a miracle. There's no other practical way, although removing the earth's atmosphere would help a little. In any case, the signal readings don't matter (they vary from receiver to receiver anyway). What matters is that the picture and sound are stable. Is WF100 flexible enough to do this? Which cable do you recommend? See http://www.satcure.com/tech/cable.htm I am interested in buying the Jaeger 1224 SMR-1224 EL to my 1.8m offset dish to track from 131W-61 W. I do have an arm for 12 ft mesh prime focus dishes. My questions are> 1) Is there a way this Jaeger be sent to the US or to Honduras? No, too expensive for us to consider. 2) Do you know of a store which sells your equipment in the Americas, specially in the US? If no, would you want a distributor here? No. 3) Can it work at 110V? It uses 36 volts DC from the receiver. I am looking to connect my Vigin cable box to a TV in another room and am thinking about using a scart lead. Is it easy to connect the plugs to the cable? as I do not want to drill big holes in the wall for the scartplug to fit through. I will need about 15m of cable. If you know of a better solution I would be grateful for any information. Thanks Michael R. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page4.htm#wallscart It's fiddly but easy if you are dextrous, have good eyesight and can solder. (If you fail in any of those requirements, get a friend to help.) Model number on label or rear panel: DSI 8210CS I managed to damage the IDE ribbon cable and whilst I can get a replacement, I cannot find one of a similar length. I see you have replacements for Pace Sky+ boxes but would you happen to have one I could buy for a Thomson PVR3, perhaps from an unrepairable box or maybe another compatible IDE ribbon of a length no less than 23cm, no more than 25cm? Sorry, please try Michael:- Model number on label or rear panel: DHD4000 I purchased relkit 33e for my Thomson dhd4000. I have 2 of these boxes, so I assumed the same PSU in both. The one I bought the kit for IS NOT A SAMSUNG but a TAMURA R40085 Rev 00 ? Do you sell a kit for this ? regards John. Hi, John. Unfortunately we don't, so I recommend you sent the complete box to Michael and he will repair the PSU for you. I would like to know what kit is required if my Amstrad DRX550 isn't powering up at all. If it's something to do with the power supply board is there a particular capacitor that I can buy from your site for this or do I need to get the whole kit or just a few things to get it up and running again. I have checked that the kit on your site is for DRX500 not for DRX550 Thanks, Kind Regards Fawad Hi, we don't have anything for this model so you should send it to Digifix:- Thanks Steve Hi, Steve. You can not split the LNB cable and retain normal functionality. OK, so I want to fit a quad-output LNB to my dish. Isn't it a case of simply ordering the cables and F connectors from you and connecting them to the LNB and Sky+ box or have I missed something? Steve S. Please read all the relevant Technical information on our web site. Take your time. It will help prevent you from making (possibly expensive) mistakes! Start here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/page10.htm In particular: "As the additional weight of the cables can make the arm sag, you may find...." Take your time!!! 1) There are two types of OCTO LNB shown on your site and I would like to know which will be supplied please - at satcure.com/tech/boots there is an OCTO LNB with sliding cover, but the picture at satcure.com/accs/page1a.htm for LNB83 shows a YELLOW device. It will be whatever our suppliers happen to have in stock. We can't guarantee a specific colour. You will notice, next to that photo of a yellow LNB the statement: "May differ from photo." Also read the longer note at the top of the page, which I won't bother to type here. Unfortunately, I very much doubt that the yellow LNB is still available. Most manufacturers have now standardised on grey with a sliding cover. 2) Is weight of an octo device much more than a quad - ie too much strain on the dish's arm? Many thanks, Andrew Please see http://www.satcure.com/tech/page10.htm#lnb Although it refers to "Sky minidish", please read the note, beneath the large photo, that begins: "As the additional weight of the LNB and cables can make the arm sag..." http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/LNBpics.htm I have a Toshiba HDD/DVD/VCR connected to my digibox and JVC TV Model AV-32WR4EK. My problem is I can no longer record SKY subscribtion channels. I believe this started after I inserted the 'new' card that SKY sent me about 4 months ago. I have contacted SKY about this and all they say is that the new card is working fine and there maybe some channels I cannot get and maybe I'd like to consider changing to the SKY+ box. My Brother-in-law has a Amstrad SKY digibox and he can still record all programmes after inserting his new card. When I attempt to record subscription channels I get the following message through my Toshiba unit:'Recording of this programme is prohibited. To quit, first select OK and then press stop'. I've had my TV repair man check my wiring connections which he said are OK. These are the scart connections: TV Ext1 to Digibox TV out. TV Ext2 to Toshiba AV1. Digibox VCR to Toshiba AV2. Any help would be appreciated. Mick S. Hi, Mick. Unfortunately, I can't help you directly but you might get help with this on the "Digitalspy" forum. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14 It may simply be a matter of using a "Macrovision buster": Model number on label or rear panel: none Have recently bought Sony Bravia T.V. with integrated Freesat. Also have Sky+ digibox. Twin LNB was connected to digibox and was advised by Freesat to fit one LNB cable to TV to get Freesat working. Both Freesat and Sky TV are working visually but Sky+ will not record anything. This has been since new TV installed. Satellite dish also connected to multiroom standard Sky digibox. Will I need another LNB from the dish or is ther an easier answer? Thanks Mike Hi, Mike. I assume that you have the normal Sky+ arrangement with a quad-output LNB on a Sky minidish? In that case, you'll need two cables feeding the Sky+ Digibox, a third cable feeding your "multiroom" Digibox and a fourth cable feeding the Freesat tuner in the TV. You'll find information about cable, LNBs and connectors in our web site Technical section. Model number on label or rear panel: dsi8215wd-89 I am stuck on standby and feel its the psu. I have tried ringin the number for Belfast repair place on your webpage but it won't accpet incoming calls. Have you any other number? edward Sorry, we have no other contact details. You could try this company in Enniskillen:- http://www.pacelink.co.uk/repairs.htm My questions are the following: - It seems the PSU has not been damaged during transit, but could it be faulty - How to test? (I do not see anything wrong on the capacitor) - I have read that you do not do repairs, should I contact a repairer in London ? If I do, and they diagnose that the PSU is faulty, how do we proceed ? - Would you have any other ideas of what might not be working and potentially how to solve it? Please see http://www.satcure.co.uk/psu/ Click on the link "If the new PSU does not work, or you have a problem after replacing/repairing it". Follow the instructions there. I am wanting to place all my tv/audio hardware in my converted cellar (directly below my living room) and to be able to control this equipment via a discrete IR extender system. I need to be able to control the SKY HD box, CD player, DVD Player & Amp (4 sources) via the system. I have read the info about the extenders you offer, but have read so much that I have confused myself! Can you advise me what system I need to purchase from you to allow me to do this? It's entirely your choice, dependent on whether you want a wired system (or whether wireless will actually work). How about the OmniLink Plus? http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3.htm#omnilink Careful placement of the three "blasters" should allow you to control four pieces of equipment. In fact I think it plugs into the Sky Digibox RF2 socket so it may work that direct. (It's a new product so I'm not familiar with it.) Also, if I wanted to be able to send the output from my HD box to a 2nd HD tv (in HDMI) is this possible? This is a less important avenue than the above however. It is possible but you'll need a suitable amplified HDMI splitter. The ones we stock are expensive but they work. The ones stocked by Amazon are cheap but I can't vouch for them. http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page18.htm The part no: on the box and on the part itself is the correct number as ordered. The picture of the front of the plate on your website has 4 connections SAT, Return, TV, Radio exactly as I wanted. The plate that arrived has SAT1, SAT2, TV, Radio. My Question is this: Will the sat2 connection act as a return to the loft box? If so every thing good. If not I need to change the plate. Excellent site, shop and ebooks. Tried to keep it short and sweet. Thanks Mac Thanks, yes, SAT2 is a completely separate connection that can be used for any purpose you wish, including "Return". I'll add an explanatory note to this page:- http://www.satcure.com/tech/wall_plates.htm If so is there an alternative splitter I can use as I don't really want to fit a wall plate. Many thanks Mike M. Hi, Mike. You certainly need to split the signals to feed TV and radio. However, you could experiment with a simple 'Y' splitter. Dependent on the signal strengths and on your receiving equipment, that might be sufficient. You don't need to "fit" the wall plate. Hide it somewhere. You could even remove the actual plate from the decombiner. Loft aerial (new) feeds via. Booster in loft to 4 TV's in different rooms. Intermediate interference appears to come from mobile phones and affects digital and analogue. Digital pictures break up and analogue pictures have horizontal lines. Have tried placing silver foil below aerial but to no affect. All TV's are affected at the same time suggesting interference is above amplifier and splitter box. Driving me batty and do not know where to go. Two local installers have looked but not resolved. Any ideas much appreciated. Jon H. Hi, Jon. Mobile phones transmit. That is their purpose. Consequently, you may never solve this. However, you are using a Yagi aerial where a log-periodic would work fine and might give some rejection of interference. Your aerial is in the loft, which is the worst possible place for interference. Your no-name "booster" might be exacerbating the problem. Try removing it and feeding just one Freeview receiver direct from the aerial. If that fixes the problem, try a passive splitter alone. If insufficient signal, connect a good quality masthead amplifier. Make sure aerial cable is double-screened and aerial is located in the place furthest from source of interference. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/best_aerial.htm Your advice will be very usefull Many Thanks Martin S. We offer a Freesat Remote Extender kit that would also do for Freeview:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3.htm#freesat However, it's much cheaper simply to buy a Freeview receiver and connect that to the TV via a Scart lead. Mind you, if your mother is as old as mine, it's a better idea to buy a TV with Freeview built in. (Actually, it's difficult to find one that hasn't got Freeview, nowadays.) I have read your FAQ pages. Hi looking to replace broken external aerial thought about dat 45 but Darvel looks to be group A and the dat is not suited for that could you point me in the right direction. Freeview on Darvel requires aerial group A position H transmitter erp 2000w @395m-...........any help would be grateful. Alister S. Yes, your best chance is with the longest "group A" aerial you can find. However, there are problems! Firstly, high-gain group A aerials are becoming rare and expensive but you can order an XB16A from here: http://www.aerialsandtv.com/atvschoiceofaerials.html#XB16 Secondly, there's a blooming big hill between you and Darvel so the chances of receiving anything are not good. I recommend that you consider freesat (satellite TV) instead. Can you confirm what quattro LNB is best suited for picking up Eutelsat W4. gerard s. All quattro LNBs work with all multiswitches. I'm not aware of any significant performance differences between them. What really matters is the size of dish and ensuring that the LNB matches the dish. You'll have to do some research because I specialise in UK reception, so I can't give you any specific advice for your location. Give my regards to the chickens. I'm in the middle of replacing the PSU in my Sky HD box. Having gone through your instructions for removing the multiway connector, can I be so bold as to suggest you include the sketch I've made of the locking mechanism this Molex connector uses? I know they are fiddly to unlock and can break easily but at least clients need to be aware they are there. I've uploaded a pdf. Regards John T Sage John, how VERY kind of you to take the time to do this for our customers! I'm extremely grateful. This is one of those jobs that I kept meaning to do but, as I live in Greece and the workshop is 2000 miles away, I just never got around to it. I have added your information to the instructions page. Possibly but WHY? If your aerial is working, why change it? I'm not so keen to get a sale that I would lie to you. Leave well alone unless you have a really good reason to change. Model number on label or rear panel: DS440N Hi, re: LNB28 SKY QUAD OPTIMISED LNB with adapter I bought above from you at the end of March last year with some other stuff to replace standard sky LNB and rewire so I can have freesat HD and sky free to view, in addition to normal Sky subscription ie I'm using three of the outputs from the LNB. I was assiduous (!) with the silicone grease and all connections. All seems fine to me and has been working well (thanks for good service and instructions - have recommended your site to others). This last week bought a sky box office movie - but couldn't receive the channel. I phoned Sky and they refunded me and took me through a "reset" of the box checking the GHz carrier frequency was correct, with me reading out the code from the menu. Didn't cure problem, the guy said it was only isolated to this channel group (I think from memory it was channel 754) and he thought it was an LNB problem, as I could receive all other channels OK. Signal strength & quality bars seem to be at about 40-50%. Is he correct? (ie do I need another LNB). If so... might there even be any guarantee on the LNB ;-) (although 15 quid isn't a big deal and this isn't the purpose of the email) Thanks neil Can't say, unfortunately. You seem to be describing a problem with one single frequency. It would be highly unusual (but not impossible) for an LNB to attenuate one frequency. It's far more likely to be caused by:- See http://www.satcure.co.uk/digirep.htm Everything we sell is covered by guarantee. The LNBs delivered with my order are not as quite as shown on your web site. The single unit is a Technomate TM-1 unit which mat be OK but the Twin outlet units Inverto.tv black premium units do not properly fit the adjustable bracket arm and clamps. The neck is only 28mm long and I think minimum of 30mm is needed to give proper clearance and allow the unit to seat properly on the arm. There is of course no means of achieving back and forth movement. Please advise how these can be best fitted and if the units are in fact suitable for a multi LNB installation. I have uploaded a photo and diagram. I don't know how much more I can say other than the length of the barrel of the LNB is less than the width of the bracket you supplied. Because the diameter of the outer part of the LNB is considerably greater than the barrel this then fouls the bracket and the LNB will not seat properly. The two components do not seem to be suited to each other. Regards, Hugh M. Thanks for the sketch and photo. Manufacturers and suppliers change LNBs seemingly on a weekly basis and the trend is for miniaturisation. Normally this causes no problem but it's obviously a problem with the adjustable bracket clamps. You might consider taking a hacksaw to the clamp mouldings and maybe filing the metal, curved, slotted bracket if necessary. (This will not affect any guarantee because _I_ have suggested it to you.) I'll ask Sales whether we have an alternative but I suspect the answer will be "no". Twins are a bit rare. Demand is generally so low that we're lucky to sell one per month. If your side-by-side spacing is adequate, we can probably supply quad-output LNBs to fit, instead, with no price penalty. Anyway, I hope you'll accept my apologies for this incompatibility. It's not a problem I've seen previously so nobody was looking out for it. I put the items in the basket but then I am stuck. Click on the orange "FAQs" tab. Click on the "How to Order" link. Read that page carefully. 99.99% of customers find the shopping cart intuitive and don't need instructions, but a few do. I have Sky and a Sky ('mesh' type) minidish... Perforated minidish. (Sky have never supplied "mesh" dishes - despite what might be printed on the box.) ...that was fitted by them about 5 years ago. I live in a rural area and reception (terrestial/Freeview) is always very poor, so 2 years ago I paid to have a Quad LNB fitted and this serves 3 TV's: 1 on Sky+; 1 on HD FreeSat and 1 on SD Freesat. So I have used all 4 channels on the Quad. I'm now having a loft conversion and want to put a further TV in the loft, so I'm think of a 2-channel FreeSat HD set-up. Freesat provides a lot more than two channels! (Maybe you mean twin-tuner?) My question is that I've been told I shall need an Octo-LNB. Given that my Sky dish is 5 years old which are the "best 2" octo_lNB's you would recommend to fit to my dish? I saw one on your site but that was only for Sky dishes fitted recently. (NB I won't be doing the installation myself but I think it would be better to buy the octo-LNB myself and tell my TV guy to fit it for me.) Andrew T. The "best" OCTO LNB is one that fits your dish. However, since I recommend using a larger dish with an OCTO LNB* the question may be academic. We sell OCTO LNBs, larger dishes, and a kit with both. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/zone2_sky_minidish.htm http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/dish_60cm.htm *I suggest a larger dish because a house that's big enough to need 8 LNB feeds will often have some long cable runs, which will have significant signal loss. However, if you want to keep the existing dish, you'll have to measure the arm to determine whether a modern OCTO will fit. More info on our web site. I want to know which LNB to order from you to work with the above receiver and an existing satellite. Have read your excellent website but still need help. My satellite dish was fitted new about 3 years ago to recieve broadband (no longer used). It points 'in a similar direction' to a sky dish nearby. It's oval about 56cm x 45cm and has a Thomson LNB no. 13553 'single' fitted to the arm by a spigot (the LNB spigot fits into the female satellite arm and is secured with a plastic pin. Is it a Sky minidish? The cable run will be quite long (c 45m) so good reception will be important. Phil Unfortunately, I can't tell you what dish you have. However, it may be academic. 45m is really too long for a minidish coaxial cable run. To ensure reliable reception in bad weather, you may need a larger dish. Hi Nicola, The D2256 ARCON dish arrived fine. Many thanks. Hooked up to a Humax Foxsat HD PVR and sitting on my apartment balcony floor it easily picks up all the channels here in Antibes (South of France) for Freesat, including BBC HD. If you need a testimonial for this product drop me a line. Regards, Nevil I would like to commend you on your quick delivery, I was not expecting this order until Friday as it was your three day postage, but received today. This is next day delivery, your turnaround is excellent. Thank You, Dennis. Thanks for the prompt delivery. I will be able to start the job tomorrow. Ken B Fantastic resource of information on your site. I just bought some co-ax and F connectors off you to extend my Virgin cable modem, and used your tutorials for fitting the F connectors. Worked perfectly! Thanks! Richard N Thanks for a great service, especially the comprehensive information. Thomson SKY HD box broke down Thursday. Investigated and ordered RELKIT33JS Friday PM. Parts arrived Special Delivery Saturday AM, box working again by lunchtime! Richard C Exellaint service, ordered on Sunday, arrivede this morning, the two packages arrived within an hour of opne another, the only problem is that the shower proof cover on the quad LNB does not fit?. thanking you for your ecellant service Donald b. Actually, the photo that you uploaded shows the plastic "grommet" that clips into the oblong hole in the dish face before you slide the LNB arm into it. The rain cover (if any) will be attached to the LNB. Just pull it down. Just to thank you very much, I was able to repair my Thomson SKY HD PSU with your kit... 3 caps were leaking: about time (got the box in May 2005 the day after SKY HD launch) So many thanks and I will recommend you to all my friends in the future Kind regards, Christophe M Thanks for the speedy turnaround for the PSU. It's all fitted now and we have BBC HD back in time for the Olympic opening ceremony (as well as BBC 1, Sky 1, 2 and 3 and Sky 1 HD among the many other missing channels that all seem to be back on the ones I've checked so far). I'll send the other PSU for repair in a pay day or two's time and then decide what to do with the spare box when I have two working. Probably a Sky freesat card initially. Best wishes Ed Posted Thomson Sky HD PSU off to Satcure on Friday. By the next Tuesday morning I had received rebuilt PSU back. Excellent instructions meant Sky HD rebuilt with new PSU and working by 10:30 am that same Tuesday. Fantastic service Thanks again Graham Barnes I would like to thank you very much for the excellent service I had from you regarding the above order. I sent my old PSU to you Tuesday evening 16/2, received new one Thursday morning 18/2 (had an email Wed 17/2 telling me it was being dispatched). I stated my Thomson Sky box would not even power up; after fitting the new psu the box now works a treat; I think the picture quality is better than previously as well. Thank you very much again for your great service. Mr B Bunker RELKIT33j Capacitor kit mkI for Thomson SkyHD Parts eventually received, courtesy of the Cyprus Mail Donkey. I placed this order on 11 Feb at 13.50. I had a phone call the next day to query my credit card details (guess what, I'd mis-keyed a digit on the order form - my fault entirely), and the goods were then dispatched the same afternoon. On the morning of the 13th, the goods were delivered. In other words, it was the usual superb Satcure service. My only complaint was the delivery time - 7.30 in the morning and we were still in bed! David Sullivan. Hi y'all Thanks for the prompt delivery of PSU replacement capacitors, all fitted into my Thompson Sky+ box with perfect results and no failures over the last few weeks I am happy to report. I intend on extending my sky+ from a downstairs room to an upstairs room, about a 20-30m run round the outside of the house (clipped to exterior wall)to the opposite side. (The least likely to interfere with cat5e (LAN) data cable as well as it will share a short run)

I have read your Technical pages but am still unsure that I have understood their guidance. I bought a UXF4 amplifier from you a while back and want to connect a radio aerial to it. If I do this do I then need to use a GLO28 at the tv/radio end of the cable to split the radio and TV signals.
I am in the process of fitting a new plasma tv for my mother and I need to know if I can buy a magic eye for a freeview system.
My location is: ka10
I'm Looking to install a satellite system when I return back to Kiev in the Ukraine, and would like to use a multi-split system.
Subject: Sky HD+ PSU
I noted that I do have the wrong aerial for using against Crystal Palace transmitter. Would the Pro-Vision V10-030 or Vision V10-040 you sell be suitable? If so I need to order this before the weekend!
Equipment made by: Pace Sky
