Blog The SatCure Review has changed its name to "The SatCure BLOG" and has moved to the UK server at satcure.co.uk/reviews/ Follow me on Twitter Log in to Twitter and get bulletins from "SatCure". Latest Bulletin: In the evening, on Freeview, Scotland BBC Alba now broadcasts using the same space as needed for BBC Radio 2, 3 and 4 so those programmes are no longer available in Scotland (evenings). Have your say about it here: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1308159751 Back to the UK I'm back in the UK for a couple of weeks, to meet old friends and sort out a few things. Also to see my dentist and osteopath. Sky Freezing TV Prices Until August 2012 http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1495217 Scrap the BBC licence? This is an oldie but keeps on cropping up. Here's a Facebook rant:- http://www.causes.com/causes/276396?m=9e4cc0c7&recruiter_id=62113290 Here's a petition (closed):- http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/TVtaxation/ "To fund the BBC, a tax should be added to the cost of new TVs, radios, computers and any other devices that are able to access the services of the BBC." That's nice. So you want ME (the retailer) to act as unpaid tax collector (as I already do for VAT) and you think, maybe, that this will end up costing you less than the TV licence? BBC Television Centre in London might be sold http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1490614 Well, that's another way to raise funds! What's happening? Sky is adding new services they can enjoy as part of their existing subscription. On 6 July Sky is launching another great service called "Sky Go", that brings together the existing Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV services. Tell me more Sky Go lets customers watch TV from Sky on the move, wherever they are in the UK and ROI. A benefit that's available only from Sky. Customers with Sky Sports can watch the channels live - for FREE. How will Sky be letting customers know? Sky Go will feature in a big Sky Sports advertising campaign starting on 27 June. Customers who want more info can go to sky.com/skygo(live from 27 June) and register their details. We'll contact them on 6 July to tell them that Sky Go has launched. What's the benefit for Sky customers? What do customers need & what can they watch? Sky Go is available on a range of devices (see table). Customers on their laptop, PC or Mac can watch up to 33 live channels and a range of on-demand content in line with their TV subscription (similar to Sky Player). On iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, customers can watch all 5 Sky Sports channels, plus Sky News live. And there will be more content and more mobile devices added in the coming months. Customers need a Sky iD and a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. They can register up to two Sky Go devices and watch on both at the same time. Content PC, Laptop & Mac iPhone iPad iPod Touch Sports* Movies Entertainment TV from Sky is also available on Xbox 360 and Fetch but it won't appear in the advertising campaign. How do customers get Sky Go? Customers can set themselves up. They need a compatible Sky Go device, a Wi-Fi or 3G connection and a Sky iD(the ID they use to log into MySky). From 6 July, customers with LAPTOP/PC/Mac: Go to Skygo.com. Log in with the Sky ID & follow the instructions iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch: Go to iTunes App Store, download the free Sky Go application & follow the in-app instructions. Any questions ? Where can I watch Sky Go? You can watch Sky Go from 6 July anywhere in the UK and ROI where there is a Wi-Fi/3G connection. When can customers start watching? New customers need to have Sky TV installed and have an 'active' Sky account to start watching with Sky Go. Existing customers can start watching as soon as they've signed up for the service. Will there be more devices added to Sky Go? Sky will be adding Android tablets and mobiles to the Sky Go device line up in the future. Is Sky Go in HD? No, Sky Go content is SD only. What happens to Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV? From 6 July, Sky Go will replace Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV for Sky TV customers. Sky Mobile TV will still be available for non-Sky customers. What about Sky Go for non-Sky customers? In August we'll launch Sky Go for non-Sky TV customers - look out for more info coming soon. Non- Sky TV customers can register their details from 6 July and we'll contact them once Sky Go is available. Note that during July non-Sky customers won't be able to sign up for Sky Player I heard about a service called Sky Anywhere - is this the same thing? Sky Go is the first stage of a big project to launch Sky Anywhere next year, look out for more info. in coming months. Comment from Martin Watch your bandwidth limit if using this at home. I have friends who have already had warning letters from their ISPs because they watch BBC "iPlayer" too much. Most ISPs offer "unlimited" bandwidth but they often set an unofficial "fair usage" limit of 40 GB (sometimes less). Our server move on June 4th went relatively smoothly. There was only one hiccup and my ISP fixed that by 8 am, which, I thought was damn good service. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for 1and1 Internet. I have two domains registered with them. In the past they sent me a demand for money, which looked like a typical scam letter. It didn't mention the domain names, so I had no idea what it was for, but I thought I would play safe and wrote to them stating that I'd be happy to pay if they could clarify what I was paying for. Their response was to pass the matter immediately to a debt collection company and it cost me £25 just to get them off my back! Since I was changing servers anyway, I thought this would be a good opportunity to include the two sites registered with 1and1. I worked my way through their web site and found the relevant domain transfer form. However, each time I completed it and clicked OK, it reverted to a blank form! I used their email form to ask them to fix this. Their (commendably rapid) response was to ask me to call an 0871 number (from Greece?) I wrote again, explaining the difficulty. They responded by suggesting that this could all be solved by phoning the 0871 number! I'm sure many of you share my pet hate of companies that use call centres in foreign countries. Now, I am not xenophobic - in fact I can even spell that Greek word in Greek! But the poor sods at these centres have no knowledge of topography. Whether you tell them you are in Cardiff or Athens, it means nothing to them. They simply work from a script. So I'm afraid that 1&1 Internet gets my vote for worst company of the month. If you want a good, caring, low cost web hosting service, I can recommend www.BetterWebSpace.com Let me first declare my interest: As many of you already know, I use Apple Mac OSX on all my computers. I own lots of Macs and one Dell Mini "Hackintosh". I use them for historical reasons because Mac was the ONLY choice when I first started publishing in 1987. I could probably get used to using Linux or Windows but I have a lot of dough tied up in Macs and I think a transition could be long, painful and expensive. Never the less, I don't share Apple's vision and I may have to migrate one day. I do NOT own an iPhone or an iPod Touch or an iPad. I think that fact puts me right on the fringe of "fanboi" status. Anyway, enough about me. There's a good article about Apple's "iCloud" here: http://techcrunch.com/2011/06/08/apple-icloud-google-cloud/ It describes, in a nutshell, what it's all about. Basically, all apps run on your Mac (not in the cloud) and data is synchronised between your devices in the background. In other words, it's NOT like "Dropbox" or "iDisk" or anything else of that ilk. You don't get to upload or download anything. The synchronisation is automatic and invisible to the user. Apple's whole philosophy is to hide the nuts and bolts and just let the computer user be productive, without any need to understand how the "magic" happens. Most computer users need this protection (although many don't know it, even though they screw things up frequently). However, for those who like to "fiddle under the hood", don't buy a Mac. It's probably not for you, unless you like a real challenge. From my own point of view, Apple's latest "iCloud" venture and "Lion" OSX doesn't interest me. I have too much money tied up in older hardware and software that I still use. None of it is compatible with Apple's vision of how I ought to use my computers. So I'm sticking with what I've got, for now, and keeping a close watch on developments. Stop Press I have just ordered a "Hackintosh" tower PC after damaging yet another Apple Mac Mini while trying to change the memory DIMMs. My eyesight simply isn't up to the job any more. This PC uses parts that are compatible with Mac software so it will run MacOSX and Linux Ubuntu quite happily AND let me dig around inside. It won't be a flying machine but I don't intend to do any gaming, so it should be fine for my needs and a lot faster than my current 1.8 GHz Power PC Mac. On the subject of eyesight, I snapped the "bridges" on two perfectly good pairs of spectacles - one of which (top photo) was "unbreakable memory metal". The other (bottom) pair has titanium frames. Luckily, I discovered a shop in Crewe that offers a repair service. For just £20 each, they repaired these spectacles by "micro laser welding" so they are as good as new! They offer a postal repair service, too. If you wear spectacles, make a note of this company! http://www.alphaomega-glasses-repair.co.uk/ If you contact them, please mention "Martin from Crete". (I don't get commission but I promised I'd give them a "mention".) See comments If you have problems with our email form "spam filter", please post your contribution in the public forum. If you want a mention in this monthly newsletter, just ask. I will then decide whether your message is suitable for inclusion or whether I should simply include a link to it here. Missing Review 152 Hello Martin I have just received your SatCure Satellite Review 153 and realise that I didn't receive No. 152 at the end of April. I have never missed one before so I am not quite sure what happened. I've checked the archive on Google and it isn't there and I don't think it will have found its way into the junk. Just for your info. Mike Shropshire, UK Hi, Mike. The bulk email service, which we use, is not cheap but it's very reliable. If you missed an email, it's not our fault. Unfortunately, I can't help with email problems. All free email service providers and many paid services use "filters", which can often seem quite arbitrary. The answer is to use a paid-for service over which you have full control. I am now sending out reminders via "Twitter", too. Some of you might prefer that to email. Luckily, all our Reviews are published on the web site, so loss of the occasional reminder shouldn't be a problem. You could even set up your own reminder, on your own computer, which tells you to look at this site on the 1st of each month. Martin Davies Virgin never supported 'old' TiVo's, they were supported by Sky, so Clive Savage is incorrect in that. Anyway an alternative source for EPG data, AltEPG is available at : http://www.tivoland.com/forum/index.php Regards, Paul Hi Martin, Just want you to know that I appreciate your updates and the information you provide. Best regards Andy Regards Alan Hello I hope the BBC HD update does not result in lower signal strength, I cannot receive C4 HD due to this. I use a Humax Freesat HD box. Thanks for all your info. Regards Mike H On some Panasonic Freesat TVs Auto retune does not get the updated BBC HD channels. You have set the TV to shipping condition then switch off then switch on. After retune the two BBC HD channels appear. John Beniston Hi Martin, Just a quick thank you for your News flashes regarding BBC HD channels retune. I would not have been ready otherwise. After retuning, I have found that the EPG for both BBC1 HD and BBC HD have gone, I will let you know if I find them again and how. I use an AB IP Box 9000HD. Regards, Bob Enright. Just a quickie. We had the same problem on some Humax Receivers. Also, one would not power on. I had to use USB stick with loader on to boot it. Lee, L&S Digital, Isle of Wight. Hi Martin, thank you for your email and advice regarding this change made by the BBC. I have a Panasonic Freesat PVR and the symptoms you described applied to that too. Autotune didn't reset the BBC HD channels (I got a "no signal" message on screen and I had to set it back to shipping condition and switch it off and back on again for it to work. Just thought you'd want to know. Stephen Edwards It may be useful to others that on BBC HD non-working SkyHD boxes to delete any "Other Channels" and do a "New Install". It has worked for some including me. Regards David Bennoson I just thought I'd say thanks for the newsletters. It's all interesting stuff. I've set my heart on getting a dish on the wall and I know where I'll get the kit from. I just need to convince my parents Freesat is better than Freeview! The new telly is a LG one with a Freesat socket on the back! Best wishes, Terry. Hi Martin, I just thought I'd say thanks for the newsletters. It's all interesting stuff. I've set my heart on getting a dish on the wall and I know where I'll get the kit from. I just need to convince my parents Freesat is better than Freeview! The new telly is a LG one with a Freesat socket on the back! Best wishes, Terry. Thanks, or "tanks", Terry, for taking the trouble to write! ;-) Stuck in Standby A neighbour gave me a FTA satellite TV receiver to look at because it was "stuck in standby". I didn't have to look very far. The rear panel was rusty, as were all sockets. Inside was no better. Although it is occasionally possible to repair minor corrosion damage, the result is often unreliable, and this was too extensive even to attempt. I gave it a few squirts of WD-40 and scrubbed it with a small paint brush. If there was any chance of repair, this would bring it to life. Unfortunately, it didn't. I told him to keep the new replacement dry. In case you were wondering, these images were taken with a USB microscope connected to my MacBook. I bought it for £30 via eBay: http://business.shop.ebay.co.uk/Microscopes-/48741/i.html 400X USB Digital Microscope 1.3 Mega Pixel Video. (I have no connection with any eBay seller and we don't currently sell these microscopes.) It (or something very similar) is also sold by Maplin Electronics and by other companies. If you have anything of interest to contribute, please contact me with details. What have you installed? What problems have you had? Have you been ripped off? Tell us all about it. NOTE: the contact form is for very brief messages and certainly NOT for technical questions. (It says so, but people still keep using it for technical questions. Please use the correct form for these questions. The correct form requires you to decide whether your question is about satellite TV or terrestrial and requests vital information about your system and problem. If you don't provide that information, I can't give a useful answer.) If you have a problem with any of the contact forms, please post in the forum instead. Thin white 4.5 mm diameter cable for connecting UHF signals (and "magic eye") around the house. Less obtrusive than conventional coax. Neater and easier to bend. The thought of having 7 mm thick cable snaking around the house has put off a lot of people from having the convenience of a remote control extender "magic eye" in the bedroom. This THIN cable could make you think twice. It's much easier to run beneath a carpet, bend around corners and it fits through a 5 mm hole! For those of you with Freesat, it's not usually possible to "pipe" RF signals around the house but our magic eye and modulator kit will let you do this. - a selection from this month's emails (If you are a new subscriber I'm afraid that you might find some of my replies a little blunt to the point of being rude. That's just the way I am after answering customers' questions for the last fourteen years. Please don't take offence. Sometimes I'm a little tired, ratty or impatient and it shows! Generally, if you ask for a free reply, you'll get what you pay for. If you DO have a question, PLEASE read the web site information and eBooks first. I get the same questions day after day because people can't be bothered to look.) Marc E. And http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/postage.htm#vat Please complain to HMRC. We don't like to act as unpaid tax collectors but UK law says we must. I am interested in purchasing 34.5 km of RG6 LSZH. Is this something you can supply. If so, please offer best price and lead time including any carriage costs. Thanks Peter Hi, Peter. I recommend you contact any satellite TV wholesaler. Be sure to state whether you want that exact specification or whether an equivalent will do. Real "RG6" is generally not sold in the UK as it's an American specification. Note that wholesalers generally don't employ staff who will understand the difference between the various "RG6" types so be sure to get a sample and determine the stock code used for it, before ordering. I have a coax running from the loft to a RF modulator connected via Scart, to a Samsung v+ box in the lounge to transmit the signal from the v+ to other TVs, there is a IR blaster (blue delta) within the circuit to allow the changing of channels. The signal is split to all the TVs within the loft by using a powered 8 way amplifier. This all works fine until I add the aerial to the amplifier by connecting the aerial and satellite together with a diplexer and one output to the amp. I then receive an excellent digital TV signal but no satellite signal. I do have spare coax running from the loft to the lounge if that helps. What do I need to make this work? I hope this enough information Best regards Steve D. Sorry, Steve. I can't follow that. Please upload your wiring diagram then write again with full details. (No response.) Hi I currently use Sky+. The box is in 1 room but I also have 2 additional TV in different rooms the house that are connected to the box via coax cable and are purely slaves to what is on the sky box. I use the small detectors that send a signal back to the sky box to change the channel. I want to move to free sat and I want to keep the system the same with the 2 additional TVs work purely off the free sat box and I keep the ability to change the channels from the room that the TVs are in. I have been told that the free sat box is not compatible with the detectors I have so please advise what my options are Many thanks Graham Hi, Graham. We supply a kit that should help:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3.htm#freesat Many thanks, Paul B. Hi, Paul. Unfortunately, we can't buy it on 50m reels. You can see the range we can offer here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page8.htm#WF100twin Mike B. Please let me know the exact web page and paragraph where I state that so that I can correct it. I can't find it. Our multiswitch page is here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/multiswitches.htm (No response.) I have no other proof of purchase as all my emails and stuff from that time are deleted but hopefully the following details may help My name is Kevin Rose My email address at that time would have been something like kevin@rose00.wanadoo.co.uk or a similar one like kevinrose@freeserve.co.uk. It is probably the Freeserve one as this was long before I got broadband, but I cannot remember it exactly so it may not be exactly as above. Hopefully you still have this on your system. I hope this is acceptable proof for you, it's the only one I have. Thanks Oh, Kevin, what a pain! I had to dig out my email archives for 2003/4 from an external Hard drive, load the old software and leave it doing a (very slow) search for "kevinrose" while I went out to do some shopping. When I returned, your original order had been found! (You lucky man.) Download details enclosed. That's very thoughtful of you. Most landlords can't be bothered. You'll need two cables for Sky+ (or Sky+HD) and one cable for a standard bedroom "multiroom" connection. So each flat will use up 3 outlets of the multiswitch. my questions are: if I choose a 5x12 multiswitch then will that supply only one sat connection into each flat or more than one? how many sat connections do I need in the flat assuming that only one multiroom option will be available to the homeowner? Three, as above. do I need a separate sat feed from the multiswitch for each use there for 3 for each flat? (2 for living room and 1 for 1 bedroom)? Yes, three. 12 x 3 = 36 outlets from the multiswitch. just to be clear I only want to provide the option, its up to the owner what they go for. some people may make do with the magic eye remote for the bedrooms. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/multiswitches.htm You'll need a larger-than-normal dish. The biggest multiswitch we can supply has 16 outlets. If you use a suitable splitter on each of the four QUATTRO LNB outputs, you can feed two Multiswitches, providing 32 outlets in total. Let's hope that not all tenants want multiroom! The internal dims of the sleeve it fits into are 23 mm by 11 mm The arm is rectangular. I'm afraid you are out of luck. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/quad_sky_lnb.htm "Which LNB do I need?" (It may be possible to drill the arm and bolt the MK4 LNB bracket to it. If anyone has done this, please get in touch because I'd like to help customers. Photos would be useful.) Vito F. I don't think "calibrating" is what you mean. Maybe "aligning"? Anyway, my guess is that there was something wrong with the installer's meter if it couldn't get a signal but your receiver can. Richard M. Hi, Richard. You could use either our manual LNB A/B switch or our electronic one. http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page1b.htm#switch I can't guarantee that this method will be trouble-free. You'll just have to try it. I recommend switching the equipment OFF before operating the switch. A more elegant solution would be to use an OCTO LNB. Later... Sorry- saw the manual A/B switch but can't identify your electronic one. More details please? Richard m. Link above. "Sadoun S-SM21V 0-12 volt L.N.B. switch". I am interested in your RJ45 units (order #304274) bit you have a note stating they don't work with moulded or shrouded connectors. If I have understood this right, it seems to be a real limitation. Could you confirm the note is correct? I want to order a few RJ11s (order #304272 ) of the same format to route VOIP and 'BT' but won't place the order for the RJ45s if the above is true. Yes it's true. You would have to cut away part of the plastic shroud with a sharp knife or simply pull the shroud backwards a little. I don't see it as a major limitation but our policy is "no surprises" so we try to give best, truthful information, where other companies wouldn't bother. You can see why it's so if you look at the photo of the C16056:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page15b.htm It incorporates a sliding cover to keep out small fingers! This means that the socket is recessed slightly. Regards, Gary D. P.S. I have previously bought products and your eBook from SatCure. Yes, see bottom of this page http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/combiners.htm However, you won't be able to pass a "magic eye" signal with this method. Two are now back to normal except for one telly with Ferguson Freeview plus box. No signal This is a new box and have worked perfect until yesterday. Have checked all cables Scart lead. All tellies run from same aerial. Tried switching off Helen D. Be sure to work through all the suggestions on our web page. http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/freeview_problems.htm Can you tell me which Internet browser you use to view the Wolfbane site, as I still have problems with viewing the direction indicator predictor even though it appears that Internet Explorer is set correctly. I use Safari. Best Wishes, Martin A number of years ago I purchased a GLO05C Global 8-way Loft Box (and all associated cabling, faceplates etc.) from you and installed it to pipe TV and Sky around my house. I also bought the 'Piping TV' eBook. The system continues to work without problems. I have a TV and DVD/HDD with Freeview tuners that are directly connected to the Sky box via SCARTs. All other TVs in the house are analogue only: Sky is piped to these TVs using the Sky box analogue RF2 output (on channel 61 via the Loft Box). I am about to replace one of the TVs that receives Sky via the Loft Box with a new TV that only has a Freeview tuner - it does not have an analogue tuner, which is increasingly common these days as DSO nears completion. How can this new TV receive Sky via the Loftbox? I have searched your web site but cannot seem to find anything that would allow this. Regards, Ian Hi, Ian. I'm afraid the answer is a very simple "it can't". It's impossible. A Sky Digibox outputs analogue RF and a Loft Box is designed to pass RF. I strongly recommend you buy a TV with an analogue tuner if you wish to keep your system as it is. If people buy TVs without analogue tuners, that will be all the proof needed for the manufacturers to cease manufacture of the "old" designs altogether. If you decide to go that route anyway, you might find that a videosender will provide a solution. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/extenders.htm There are other solutions but all require cables and additional expense. Hi Martin, Wow! Huge issue brewing here for everyone with a Loft Box in the coming years... I'm surprised this hasn't been publicised more. People who buy a Loft Box have an analogue TV - I hope. 1. Is there not a reasonably priced analogue-digital RF converter on the market (assuming such a device is technically feasible to solve this problem)? If not, do you think someone might see a demand for this issue and manufacture one? You can get a single channel one for around only £500 now. They used to be a lot dearer. We don't offer them because that's still too expensive for most. 2. What are the other 'cables/additional expense' solutions you mention? I might need to consider these to keep the family happy! Scart, DVI or HDMI distribution via CAT5E or CAT6 cable. Not very cheap and currently not very versatile but we do stock them. I like the hedge, and so do the wildlife, so cutting the hedge down isn't an option. You need only a gap the same size and shape as the part of the dish which is obscured. I have confirmed - with a 'Heath Robinson', bodge-style temporary install - that a good signal is possible elsewhere. I now need to make this permanent. So far I have fitted a 2" pole mount else where on the wall. I have a spare sky dish but need the steel bracket to attach the dish to the 2" pole. Maybe it's in the shed, or the garage, but I cannot find this part, so can you supply one? Unfortunately, I can't answer this because you haven't specified exactly what dish you have. I have a new quad LNB but the fitting is for the newer sky dishes, so can you supply a suitable alternative LNB bracket/holder? We do supply various dishes (see web site). Spare parts are occasionally available (but rarely) but you'd have to state exactly what make and type of dish you have. Unfortunately Sky have never manufactured dishes but commissioned various manufacturers to make zone-1 and zone-2 dishes, with various makes of LNBs and adapters. In effect your question is like "I have a red car; can you supply a bracket for the exhaust pipe?" All I can say is "it depends". Thank you in advance. Andy Hi, Andy. Not at present but we could do so if you list details of the parts required. Alternatively, send your receiver to Michael and, as it's the first of this model, he will do a free repair and make us a list at the same time. (We will pay him for the repair and return carriage.) Contact Michael: http://www.digifixltd.co.uk Include a printed copy of this email if you send your receiver to him. (No response.) Many thanks Chris Hi, Chris. The zener diode is clearly labelled D814 on the TU-DSB30 PSU PCB. Sounds as if you have a different model so, unfortunately, we can't help. In any case, the TU-DSB30 is a very old model and not worth spending time on. I had emailed previously as I wasn't able to locate the keep me email. You did and I asked for your order number since I couldn't trace it from your email address. I bought the Thomson PSU repair kit but I didn't get any installation instructions with it as to where each capacitor goes as some have a higher voltage than others. Can you send me the diagram to where each one should go. you would have got Paypal payment from Garry McCann if this is any help in locating which ones I got. Thanks Garry M. Hi, Gary. I have sent a copy of your Keep-me email. Please click on ALL the PRODUCT INFORMATION links and read the information before opening your Digibox. Hi Martin, basically it's just a query to ask if you can confirm the correct position for c20 and c21 on the power supply board? I replaced all the capacitors on the secondary side, having found several dud ones and decided to replace the two on the primary side but got distracted. On fitting c20 and c21 this resulted in a totally dead set. I thought perhaps I had fitted them in the wrong positions, but on swapping them around,it resulted in a large bang and component destruction. Hence the reason for buying the primary side kit. If I had left those two capacitors alone, and gone onto the Internet and read up about resetting the hard drive,I feel that that is all that would have been necessary as the hard drive started to make some type of noise after the replacement of the capacitors on the secondary side. I feel pretty confident that with the replacement of the kit and the capacitors in the correct position,I can sort the rest. Many thanks Paul. Paul b. Hi, Paul. I see that you have not read the information we provide. Please click on all PRODUCT INFORMATION links in your "Keep-me" email - especially the /PSU/ link which requires your order number. Thanks for confirming receipt. I have forwarded a copy of your message to Sales but I recommend you also open a "Sales Support Ticket". http://www.satcure.info/support/ Apologies for the missing items. Either it's an oversight or they've gone missing. Either way it will be sorted out for you if you contact Sales. Keith s. Hi, Keith. To my knowledge, no Freesat receiver has a modulated RF output (or an "RF2" output that also works as a remote control signal input) so it's impossible to use them as they are. Better/cheaper to employ used Sky Digiboxes wherever possible. However, if you MUST use a Freesat receiver, you'll need our modulator kit:- http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page3.htm#freesat (Once you've ordered one kit, if you require subsequent kits with some items omitted, Sales can arrange this for you, at a lower price.) Question is do I need to use a decombiner on every outlet even when I don't need to decombine the signal? So... if I want TV and Sat from a single coax I obviously use a decombiner but, if I only want TV can I just use a standard coax wall socket and if I just want satellite, can I just use an f connector? Thanks, Graham S. Hi, Graham, It probably won't cause any damage but you may get some interference. I'd recommend fitting a decombiner in the loft if you don't want it in the room. Thank you Hermogenes R. Yes, correct, it can. 40 mm neck. (Nice name. Reminds me of school milk.) Q1. Will an analogue TV still display HD feed, or must I buy an SD topset box? thanks, Leigh C. Hi, Leigh. You can read about the FOXSAT-HDR here:- http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/humaxfoxsathdr.html You can see that it has two Scart (=SD) sockets ("Peritel"). 2. The UK Sky zone 2 dish is fine in Brussels. 3. I have no idea what the dish weighs but it's probably not relevant because the "volumetric weight" will decide the cost if it is shipped outside the UK. If you really need to know the weight, I'll find out. TIA Mark S. Sorry, not now. I retired from repairs in 2000 and recycled all my service manuals before I moved to Crete (after offering them free to any taker!) I would prefer the gable end package then I could use the poles as a mast etc. and attached to the jockey wheel. Hope I have not gone on too much (that's me age - sorry) Regards Andy Thanks for the info. If you have a specific question, be sure to make clear what you want to know and use a question mark to make it obvious. As colour is a personal choice, we can't help with that decision. Some people like green cable to blend with grass. Some people like bright red or yellow cable to stop people from tripping over it. Kind regards and thank you in advance. Andy Unfortunately, I haven't. I recommend you ask Michael if he can fix it. www.digifixltd.co.uk Hello. Back in 2004 I bought from you, amongst other things, an 'LNB81 (82349) Philips SC519QS/S Quad'. (NOTE: I did try to enter the order number 2066666n and your reference MAL22 above, but I am afraid your system did not recognise either.) It has worked fine since then, with two feeds to our FoxSat PDR, one to the Technisat and one to something else which worked fine but has gone now. BUT .. recently both the FoxSat and the Technisat have been slow to 'find' a signal - about 5 minutes, though sometimes more. I have rebooted both and made sure that they both have the latest software (even undertaking a factory reset on the FoxSat). I have considered whether the dish (or the LNB) has been disturbed, but *when* I get a signal, I seem to have (I just checked) 85% strength and 100% quality on both channels to the FoxSat. Once they 'lock on', if I switch them on again in a few minutes or maybe an hour, they both come up OK again. But leave them much longer and again - (apparently) no signal to either receiver. I experimented by leaving both receivers off for a while, then switching them both on within a couple of minutes of each other. Despite the gap in switch-on times, after a few minutes they both found a signal at - as near as dammit - the same time. SO .. my hunch is that the LNB is having difficulty waking up. I am not complaining - it has done very good service. But do you agree? And if so, what would you suggest as a replacement? With regards, Bob M. Hi, Bob. Unfortunately. I can't guess the answer. Test with just one receiver connected at a time. The s/s LNBs fitted an early Sky minidish so you should see http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/quad_sky_lnb.htm Many thanks Nathan h. No, see http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/satindex.htm "51. Split Dish LNB cable for two feeds". Have a sky system in Motor home. Need 12v lead to connect I believe you can supply but cannot find in your website. Graham C. Hi, Graham. It's on our "receiver Spares" page: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page12.htm#javelin John H. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/satindex.htm "10. How can I Extend my Satellite/TV cable?" If you have a more specific question, which is not answered in that technical section, feel free to ask. Had no problem with Freeview reception until last night about midnight (7/6/2011). While watching BBC1 the message came on screen - "Freeview Signal poor or weak", and the screen went blank. Tried BBC2 also => same message. The other channels are fine; only affecting BBC1 & BBC2 Switched off all input for 30 seconds, and then switched on again => same result; I have all channels except BBC1 & BBC2 Alasdair F. Do you have a question? You need to find out what has changed. Transmissions from your unknown transmitter or something in or near your house. Ask your neighbours if they have the same problem. If not, then it could be as simple as a damaged fly-lead. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/freeview_problems.htm In France there several "Universal" dishes available. Will these work with basic Sky boxes or do I need a specific UK dish. We have rain fade issues and I want to put another basic Sky box in another property ( stand alone, free view only ). Would appreciate your advice. Best regards Grahame S. Hi, Grahame. You need a dish with a "universal" LNB. It would be difficult to buy an LNB that was not "universal" so I should think any dish in France will do, if large enough. More info. about dish sizes and LNBs on our web site. Do you do a stronger amplifier then the CA121F? if so can we swoop the product around. I'm not sure what you mean by stronger. The amplifier is for UHF TV. If the Sky Eye doesn't work, there must be a fault. Please read all the PRODUCT INFORMATION pages. Links are in your "Keep-me" email. Follow the troubleshooting notes to determine the cause of your problem. Before I go ahead and order your kit (assuming it is available) I am wondering whether this is likely to be a PSU fault. I guess I will have to open the unit up and check the output voltages to be entirely sure. I am just looking for a second opinion really. Check not only the DC voltages but also the ripple (with an oscilloscope). Alternatively, check capacitors for any sign of bulging or measure with an ESR meter. If you can't be sure, replace them anyway. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page12.htm#vision PLEASE NOTE my new email address is mail@(deleted).com" We don't keep email addresses on record. (BTW maybe I should point out that "mail@" is too easily guessed. Spam is guaranteed.) Hi, matt. According to the prediction, you should be receiving a massively strong signal at around 67 dBuV/m. This suggests that a small log-periodic without amplification would be the best choice and a passive splitter with NO amplification can be used to feed more than one TV set. I suspect that you are putting so much signal into the TV that you are overloading it. Best Wishes, Martin Just a quick note to add I've figured out the problem on the aerial its the built in a pre amp which needs the ac power unit connected to send signal up cable to power the pre amp I got this with the aerial but because I wanted to supply 2 TVs I replaced it with a Philex booster so conclusion this aerial needs power running to it I've now put the aerial in the loft and got a meter reader and its showing maximum lights which is good now the question is I will eventually need to supply 4 TVs should I get a standard 4 way splitter or the PAS1243 Splitter/combiner 4-way as advertised on your website to keep the signal strong? any advice would be welcome and thanks for your time as I appreciate it. regards matt Hi, matt. You will have to work out roughly how much gain you need. I can't guess. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/amps.htm What I want to know (plus any other relevant information): Trying to find value of zener diode ZD2 in above Sat rec. Many thanks David Hi, David. Unfortunately, I retired from repairs in 2000 so I've never looked inside this model. Probably best to find someone who has a TMC1500CI+ and get them to read the markings and/or measure the voltage across it. Or ask Technomate (although I don't hold much hope for a sensible reply). I believe they also sell replacement PSUs. I also recommend you put your question in the various discussion forums where you'll find experts and/or users of the same or similar equipment might be willing to help you. I have a quite complex job networking a customers house and he has asked me to finish off what the electricians couldn't do. Network and patch panels is my speciality but the TV one is quite complicated (for me!) I've patched the sky HD to 2 locations already (he has 3 boxes in total) the 3rd box he wants distributing to 16 locations around his home all of which are cabled back to common location , he wants them all to have magic eye. I thought it was straight forward buying a 16 way amp but I'm getting a little confused with what I require. I have no issue setting up RF2 voltage etc. but just want to make sure I order correct materials / equipment as its an hours drive and want to get it write without the need to keep going back. Can you tell me exactly what I require? Probably not without a site visit but you might consider the "Global F280 16 way UHF distribution amplifier": http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page15.htm#amp And see http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/split.htm As always, I recommend you take a very large sheet of paper and draw on it your wiring layout, including equipment, cable lengths, wall plates, connectors etc. The more detailed you make it, the less likely you are to make a mistake. You can also give a copy to the customer, after you've been paid, which will make you look very professional. Don't skimp on the coaxial cable to save a few pennies. WF100 is recommended and available in 6 different colours. This also gives a professional appearance. Do bear in mind that the 16 locations are going to get mono audio and fairly mediocre picture quality. If he's not happy with that (and you'd better warn him) then you'll be looking at a CAT6 cable system instead (or as well - because you still need to pass the magic eye signals back). Thanks David Apologies for the delay. It took some time to get a definitive answer from our supplier. You can order either from our web site. http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/seaside_dish.htm 24-48 hours delivery Rui aguiar Unfortunately, it appears that this part is now obsolete. hi I've just set up a 2.3 meter joysat dish second hand has a Lawrence lt700d receiver DVB (does not take a card) .I have put new RG6 cable 25 meters use a sat meter to find the sat but cant get the level or quality up on the receiver to get any channels even aligned the LNB and plate any ideas cheers durwin Hi, we specialise in UK and European digital TV accessories. We would not recommend "RG6" cable for satellite TV, but perhaps the "RG6" sold in Oz has a better specification than here and uses copper foil, not aluminium? Anyway, I suggest you connect the meter to the LNB with a very short length of cable and ensure that you align the dish on the correct satellite and not simply one that you find at random. make sure you've fitted the 'F' plugs to the cable correctly. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/fconn.htm Unfortunately, that's all I can suggest because I'm not familiar with the equipment or satellites "down under" and I don't know what you mean by "plate". If you still have problems, try posting in a satellite TV forum that serves your part of the world. Q1 : Do you sell or know of a multiswitch and wall plate splitters that can pass IR extender signals back from the extender to the UHF input on the multiswitch? I realise there won't be one that provides the 9V DC on the sat feeds because it would interfere with the polarisation signal from the receiver, so assuming I need to use DC inserters for each of the extenders. Reason I don't want separate coax on an RF compatible distribution amp is there isn't room in back boxes for a 4th coax. (2 sat + 1 virgin cable planned already.) Unfortunately, I know of no such thing. Under normal circumstances, it would make no sense to send IR signals to the aerial. If space is your only problem, use our ultra thin coaxial cable. Q2 : Do you sell suitable coax and splitters to carry the Virgin media TV and broadband feed to the modem/V+ box? I plan to run this from the door to the service cupboard and then have separate lengths from the service cupboard to each room, with appropriate splitter/splitters in the service cupboard (i.e. not through the multiswitch.) I think virgin use solid core RG6 with copper plated steel core and triple screen but don't know if they would refuse to connect to say WF100. All our coaxial cable is perfectly suitable for signals up to 2.2 GHz and above, so I see no problem. Even WF65 should be OK but note that it needs special 'F' plugs. However, you are not (in theory) permitted to touch the broadband feed as the signal level is critical and must be adjusted by a Virgin technician. You could, however, connect a new feed then pay for a technician to adjust the level if it's problematic (I guess). I wouldn't discuss this with them in advance because their "telephone help" girls won't have a clue what you are talking about. Just connect it then phone and ask for a technician to sort it out. Tell them your dog chewed the cable. Please let me know what happens so I can better advise others. Many thanks in advance. Alice H. Hi, Alice. As it's a rental system, technically it doesn't belong to you and you are not permitted to touch it. You should get a Virgin technician to make the changes. He will have the necessary equipment to adjust the signal level for your broadband. This is very dependent on cable length. Can you not simply coil the existing cable? Of course, if you want to try it, then our WF100 should be OK and you can revert back to the original cable, should you have problems. "Take care on there as I went to buy a remote control for TV but when I went to pay by card it said "beware this site is being impersonated " so I backed out quickly ! Be aware..." I hope you haven't got a problem, but I thought you ought to be aware. Best wishes, Lorna. Hi, I don't think we have a problem. Try it yourself! (We don't sell remotes for TV sets so your friend is mistaken anyway.) Hi Martin One last question ( which I should have thought of before ). Will the power supply on the tvLINK plus be enough to drive the tvLINK on the other end of the 30 metre cable or does it need its own inline supply.....in which case which one? very best regards Jim S. I'm confused. How can this be a "last question" when there were no previous questions? Anyway, yes, the tvLink-Plus is designed to pass power to a tvLINK. (That's too obvious so maybe you are trying to ask something else?) Cable length has no measurable effect on the DC voltage - only on RF signal level. I have been running the trade only Television-Magazine-Forum.co.uk for a few years now and have a number of Television Magazine contributors onboard. I wondered if you might like to let us put some of your old articles on the forum. Or perhaps advertise SatCure somehow. www.television-magazine-forum.co.uk regards Trevor Sure, go for it! Can you recommend a replacement LNB? Thanks & Regards Chris B. If it's available from Maxview, we can obtain it. Unfortunately, you haven't stated which Maxview dish or provided the identification on the LNB. Connecting a signal meter would be extremely unlikely to damage an LNB. Have really checked the dish alignment? (No response.) I am trying to order a LNB bracket fro a 60 cm dish. I've got a spare LNB and cable after buying a quad from from you. I'm trying to look at Astra 2 19.2 E without going to too much expense as I only want to see some FTA French stations on it. in http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/dish_60cm.htm I see what I want to play with but don't seem to be able to order it on its own. Is this possible? I know I haven't got the same dish but it looks easy enough to try and adapt and not so expensive that a mistake is a disaster. Ken van T. I am interested in purchasing the RELKIT33JS @ £10.95 plus VAT and p&p. I'm just wondering why {you're} charging VAT on the postage? The price should be £15.37 but {you're} charging £16.14.
Hi,
From my loft I have ran (sic) Coaxial cables all around my house approx. 10 points although not all will be used just for future use. I have a external digital aerial with good signal strength fitted and coax ran into the loft.
Equipment made by: Humax Freesat

Do you sell the Webro WF100 twin foam cable in 50 metre reels, if YES, what is the price.
Multiswitches and Quad LNBs - you say that all Multiswitches need a Quattro LNB nowadays as the Quad versions are no longer made.
I have a copy of "Piping TV around the House" Revised 25 Nov 2003 and am trying to get the updated version.
hi I am a developer doing 12 x 3 bed flats. I need to provide a communal sat dish for sky and a communal aerial. the aerial can go in the loft if at all possible. I understand that I need multiswitch and probably an amp from the LNB to the multiswitch. I want to provide sky with option of sky+ in all 12 living rooms along with aerial connection and may as well do DAB. I also want to wire all 3 bedrooms for sky and TV and DAB. if anyone wants multi room then they have the option to do so.
I have removed the LNB - it has a plastic internal spigot that fits into the arm.
I purchased an INVACOM twin LNB twh-031 from you on 12/05/11. The installer on calibrating it towards Hotbird 13 could only get a signal from H channels, nothing on V channels. Nevertheless my receiver can still get V channels . Is that normal or is there something wrong with the LNB?
My Invacom Quad LNB has one output going to a Panasonic Freesat TV and two going to a Panasonic twin Freesat PVR. One is thus unused. I'm thinking of adding Sky+. My idea is to connect the spare LNB output to the recorder of the Sky box, and have the present input to the TV do double duty between the TV tuner and the Sky input- after all, I'm not going to be using both simultaneously. Is this feasible- if only by plugging/ unplugging leads at a junction? Is their a more elegant solution using some kind of switching box?
I am looking for modular RJ45 connectors for CAT6 UTP cable connection round the house. The cables are run and I am waiting for my plasterer to complete before I wire it all up.
Is it possible to run RF In and RF 2 out on a Skybox up/down a single coax cable? I have found diplexers that will mix satellite and TV but not one for TV/TV. I am trying to connect the AE signal from the loft aerial to RF in and then run RF 2 out back up to the distribution amplifier which is also in the loft.
Have three televisions all came up with same message last night no signal.
Hello again Martin.

Hi. Do you sell a PSU repair kit for a Goodmans GHD8015F2 Freeview box with HDD? It is dead, and the PSU board has a domed capacitor.
I have 2 tu-dsb30 units stuck in standby, I suspect it may be D814, but I have looked and cannot find where it is in the PSU, can you give me any tips, all board references only seem to be in the 100,200 range???

I placed this order on the 14th. I have not received the Keep me email. I did not notice your phone number for problems.
I have purchased several Triax loft boxes and associated outlets from you, and successfully hooked them up to sky and TV ariel (sic). My neighbour has asked me to get him the parts to do a similar set up but using Freesat instead of sky! Is the same kit applicable? And are there any pit falls?
I'm planning on using a Labgear HDU681S Loft Box.
Hi, I want to know if this item: "Plastic mouldings with bolts CH48 LNB bracket kit for channel Master 90 cm - 1.2m dish £7.95" can be used with a universal LNB of 40 mm neck.
I enquiring about your Humax FOXSAT-HDR PVR topset box (http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page14.htm#humax) and Zone2 dish (http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/zone2_sky_minidish.htm) for Freesat viewing. Installation would be in Brussels, but delivery would be a UK address.
Q2. Will this dish work in Belgium or do I need something bigger/extra?
Q3. What is the weight of the dish?
I need a circuit diagram for the PCB on a Pace 2600C1, or even better, a service manual, can you help?
I am very interested in the Vision V10-040 aerial after reading reviews and feedback via the Internet etc. and would order immediately but I haven''t a clue which colour cable I need. My caravan is situated near Bridlington and the reception is terrible/non existent using my current set up which includes an old status spaceship aerial (over ten years old and covered in moss and I have just realised it does not have a spike) and a booster set up feeding directly to the TV. I am unable to determine which Mast provides TV signals to that region. I live within ten miles of the Emley moor mast in Yorkshire and could get a picture using wet string but what ever I set up at home and test it never works in Bridlington. I believe it is the fact that I have the wrong/old aerial, wrong cable and poor connections (I will watch your video).
Hi. I have recently purchased and installed one of your "RELKIT33M" power supply repair kits for this box, in order to replace the two domed capacitors, following a power failure, The box now powers up how it should, and works fine, other than the absence of sound, The sound is present from the RF output, though somewhat distorted, but is missing from the Scart output. Just to ask if you've heard of this problem before, and if it's a known problem.

I have 2 Way F Connector Splitter with DC Bypass. My plan was to take one of my sky box inputs from dish, split it so I can have one lead into sky box and one to TV on Freesat. I have connected this but when trying it out it loses signal when both outputs are connected. Do I need some sort of booster?

I have Sky+ and I want to put another connection the other side of the room. Is it just a case of joining two cables to the existing cables or do I need special boxes/connectors? I want to keep the connection as is but I will only be using one sky box.

I have an old ex UK Sky set up here in France which works OK. ( Pace box, old semi elliptical dish, basic Sky subscription ).
Brought (sic) 2 x CA121F, one of them is on back order. Tried it out last night and it works on one of my sky boxes but on the other one it still not working with the sky eye. I have tested the sky eye and that it fine.

I am interested in purchasing amongst other things a Triax DAP 910 fibreglass dish. The photograph of it on your website under the "seaside dishes" shows the correct dish in cream however your description suggests the dish is grey. My understanding is that the grey dish is ref DAP 911. The grey dish is not suitable for my purpose. Can you supply/obtain the cream dish DAP 910 and roughly what is the delivery time scale?

I am having my house refurbed and am planning a multiswitch distribution system for Sky+/Freesat potential in every room AND UHF distribution from sources with IR extenders to control AND multiple Virgin media coax outlets.
I have Virgin Broadband coaxial cable which is currently 10 metres long and due to a bit of a move around I only want the cable to be 2 or 3 metres long. I don't want to attempt to reduce the existing cable as I'm not comfortable removing and replacing the gold connector. Instead someone advised me to buy Webro WF100 (with connectors attached) or is that only for the cable TV connection? I need a cable that's compatible to Virgin Broadband. (For the record I have both Virgin broadband and cable TV - not sure if you need to know this).

It's Trevor,
I have recently purchased a motor home which has a Maxview dish installed. Was working fine but have now lost signal strength to the extent that the decoder output is showing a 'No Signal' on the TV. The individual channel signal strength displayed on the TV is about 75-80% compared with 93% when it was working. Think I may have damaged the LNB with a bit of 'hot swapping' the signal strength meter, which I now realise is a bit of a no no after having read some of your technical articles! The decoder box works fine when connected to the sky dish on the house. Get the same result in the motor home, viz no signal, with a 12v skybox.
