| Hi Folks! New site design You'll be pleased to know that I've been trying to make the site easier to navigate. At the top of this page you'll see the new "tabbed menu" arrangement that lets you click to any part of the site in an instant. Let me know what you think of it. As most people nowadays have at least a 15" monitor, I'm increasing some of my web site page widths. It shouldn't cause problems but, if enough people complain, I'll consider changing it back! A lot of people have problems in reading the massive amount of information on our web site. Today's TV culture means that younger people like to be "spoon fed". So I'm beginning to provide audio files. At present these are not working with Windows Media Player (why am I not surprised) but if you download the free "QuickTime" player from www.apple.com and set that as your mp3 player, it should work. See the FAQ page, bottom item. http://www.satcure.co.uk/audio.htm If the problem is still there and someone knows the answer, please tell me! You can access the files directly at http://www.satcure.co.uk/audio/ The server has been giving problems recently. I'm hoping to get my site transferred to a different server but, if you have a problem, try the mirror site at http://www.satcure.net SKY+ phone problems You recently (January) sent me a "One for All", cordless phone line extension to be used with my new Sky+ box. The specific problem we had setting up the SKY+ was that I have a BT cordless phone and the mains adapter of the phone was interfering with the mains supply of the extension, (I had them plugged in side by side, and this was causing interference on the phone line, preventing the "call back" to the Sky+ box on initial set up). That's what the engineer said anyway. When I separated the 2 units, it worked fine. The Sky engineer scratched his head for a while when he saw the cordless extension, said he had heard of it, but had never actually seen one. After installing the system and connecting to the phone line, it worked perfectly after some minor tinkering, and I am very happy. Thank you very much. The Sky engineer was so impressed that he took the product details, and your details away with him. I hope that this may result in some more business for you. Kind regards, Don (top) Sky Digiboxes with FTV card I'm not averse to advertising things that we don't sell, if it helps people. In this instance STEVE has ten Sky Digiboxes with working FTV cards. Please contact him direct for more information. nottm_steve@hotmail.com I'm not sure of the legality of reselling FTV cards but I do know that Steve can be trusted. No more Macrovision Busters The suppliers of Macrovision Busters have been receiving letters recently and all of them, including Maplin, have removed them from sale. So you can't buy them any more - or can you? There are some crude Macrovision defeaters on sale - look at Ebay. But if you are feeling defeated about this, try clicking on Google and searching for "defeat"! (top) Pace and Grundig switch off Older Pace and Grundig models have an issue with firmware versions 3.1a.5 through 3.2.11 which causes them to "drop to standby" several times during the day, often losing all settings. Curiously, they don't appear to do this at weekends. The unofficial word is that Sky will be releasing a fix "very soon". Please don't email me to ask "when will this be fixed?" As soon as I hear anything, I'll announce it in the discussion forum and in the newsletter. (top) Amstrad Sky+ Alex Lockhart kindly sent pictures of the new Sky-Plus Digibox by Amstrad. Unfortunately, his box failed almost immediately and Sky replaced it with a Pace box! (top) Tidbits Google Plans email service. Those of you currently using Hotmail or Yahoo mail might be interested in Google's planned service which offers 1000Mb of storage space and other advantages. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3588933.stm Money from adverts Since Google introduced its "Adsense" program, a lot of people are building information web sites specifically to host Google's adverts and make money from people clicking on them. In many cases, some of the information is really interesting. My own analogue satellite TV web site makes "pocket money from adverts and I just found another site that does the same. See what you think: http://www.golinkto.co.uk Stacker Destacker If you look at our on-line catalogue you'll see that we can now supply a stacker/destacker that should work with an IF Distribution system in an apartment block. It is more expensive than the standard home DIY type, it may need the addition of an amplifier and we recommend installation by professionals. The existing cable may not be suitable, although the amplifier might compensate for "marginal" cable. Briefly, the stacker sends TWO LNB outputs down a single cable and the destacker separates them at the end of the cable. This makes the system ideal for a SKY+ Digibox or for two separate Digiboxes. (top) Happy Customers Janet is now making time to write to customers and these are just a few of the replies: Regarding Order number: 2588302 Thank you very much for the extremely prompt response to my order - the goods arrived Tuesday. I have today spent less than 1 hour with my daughter (who is going to have my digibox) fitting the replacement capicitors and after plugging in and downloading the latest Sky software, it works perfectly now. My sincere thanks for helping me bring my Grundig Digibox back to life - with a Mirror sub now costing only £10 per month my daughter and boyfriend are very happy (easter) bunnies. Paul Green Janet, Just a note to let you know that the goods were received the very next day,the entire order correct. To say that I am impressed is a bit of an understatement. Well done for an extremely good service. Best regards Tony. Many Thanks for your e mail. Yes I can confirm that I did download the ebook and that my other order arrived the next day! I was very pleased with the service you provided and will, and have passed on satcure details to friends and family. I originally made an order to read about sat TV in the hope that I could get sat TV in my static caravan in Wales, the info was so good that I was able to get sat TV working in about 5 minutes ! Maybe I was lucky, but I'm sure the info via the e book helped! Once again many thanks. S J Charlton And a not-so-happy-customer Re: Your SatCure Order number: 2610616 >bought the book as I have a grundig 200 with loss of some channels but the book does not cover this fault for repair >so disapointed >thanks kjc Dear kjc, I've just checked and I'm pleased to tell you that your specific fault is covered in considerable detail, starting on page 55. See the sentence that begins: "The symptoms usually include loss of some programmes..." Best Wishes, Janet (MP: Why is it that the people who have eBook problems also seem to be the ones that have trouble writing sentences with punctuation?)
