| Goodbye Stacker We've been selling the Stacker/Destacker system from Johansson for longer than most but we've finally had to call it a day. People continued to send them back stating that "it doesn't work on output 2". The simple reason is that the signal goes up to 3.4GHz and only the besy quality cable can handle this. But people were ordering the system *because* they couldn't replace the existing cable or add another. Sorry, but it just won't work and we can't continue to "hire" these systems out for free, just so people can discover for themselves that we are telling the truth. I've left our page of information and recommendations in our technical section but we will no longer sell or give technical advice for this system. I realise this sounds terribly negative but we do need to make a profit and this item never gave us any. Recommended Installers For those of you (like me) who perhaps don't have either the time, skills or inclination to do it yourself, I have added a new page to our web site. Here we will list installers who have been recommended to us or who I know personally. If you would like to recommend a local installer, please get them to email full details to me. http://www.satcure.co.uk/useful/installers.htm Low Cost Remotes Unbelievably, we've been able to drop the prices of our Sky remotes and SKY+ remotes once again! Of course I don't know how long this happy situation will last. It could be a week, it could be a year. But, if your remote is showing signs of wear, now might be a good time to replace it. http://www.satcure.co.uk/sky_plus_remotes.htm A few customers have reported problems in removing the battery cover of the Sky Plus remote. In theory, all you need to do is to push the clip at the rear till you feel it click then lift the battery cover at its narrowest end. In practice, some clip mouldings can be somewhat tight! If you do break the clip in the attempt, we suggest you employ a little "Blue-Tack" or double-sided adhesive tape to hold the battery cover in position. Unfortunately we have been unable to obtain spare covers from the manufacturer so this is the best advice we can offer. See http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/skyplus.htm While I'm on the subject of remote controls, did you know that it's often possible to repair them? See http://www.your-book.co.uk/remote.htm Freeview success Two weeks ago I purchased The Freeview Bible. I read it (some parts several times). By going to the web links that advise availability of a Freeview service I soon found out that there was no chance of picking up a signal at my location. I had a Pace Twin Digital TV Recorder which, on my existing aerial set up, confirmed that no signal was available. Your book encouraged me to have a go at reworking the old aerial system without spending too much money. This I did using a reel of normal grade co-ax found in the garage and paying a lot of atttention to the "do's and dont's" in your Bible. The aerial was a high gain, wideband job but not a "high quality" one. It had a Labgear head amp fitted - the huge spider living inside was not too please to be evicted. Everything was cleaned up, a five degee upward tilt applied to the aerial, an unbroken down lead right to the Labgear power supply immediately behind the Pace box, a compass fix used for alignment on the Rowbridge transmitter about fifty miles away. You are thinking "not much chance". Wrong, I immediately tuned in everything that was coming out of Rowbridge and we spent a jolly evening skipping from channel to channel watching all sorts of stuff. Having proved that Freeview is available here I decided to do the aerial job properly. A couple of days later I placed my order with SatCure for a DAT75 and all the odds and ends to go with same. I will now do a first class job (following The Freeview Bible to extremes) and expect to be able to enjoy a good solid signal for years to come. As a matter of interest I had been very tempted to go over to satellite but have certainly shelved any of those thoughts now. Best regards, DLC, (retired engineer, Berkshire). Chit Chat While going through my list of installers I realised that several mobile phone numbers were out of date - they each had a digit missing. I couldn't guess the number but I remembered making a list of old and new numbers several years ago. I located it and I've put it on the web site for everyone to use: http://www.your-book.co.uk/mobile_phone_numbers.htm My office faces south and it gets awfully hot in here during summer. I've replaced one of my big CRT monitors with a 19" TFT screen and that helped a little. But I was still needing lots of cold drinks to cool me down. Eventually a friend helped me to install an airconditioning system from B&Q. It wasn't as easy as it should have been, as you can see: http://www.your-book.co.uk/airforce.htm Spanners A lot of people order hardware from us only to discover that they don't have the right size spanner. As from today, we can supply spanner sets for assembling and installing dishes and LNBs. You'll find them in the Tools section of our on-line catalogue. But these aren't "use once only" tools; they are high quality spanner sets that you can keep in your car boot. Polish TV TV Polonia analogue transmissions from HotBird are scheduled to cease at the end of October. It is "officially" only available on Astra 19 E in digital format FTA. However, it WILL continue to be transmitted on HotBird in digital, but TVP cannot guarantee that the signal will remain FTA as it is carried by Cyfra Plus and Polsat, who MAY encrypt if they want to. So, anyone receiving TV Polonia who is a subscriber to either of the Polish platforms will not be affected. So Polish viewers will need to buy a Digital receiver as a minimum and preferably one that has a CI slot so that a CAM and card can be added if necessary. (top) ITV goes FTA today The news you've all been waiting for. ITV1, 2 amd 3 are all now unencrypted! Happy Customers I am emailing regarding some links in the eBook "The Freeview Bible". On page 14 of the eBook the following two links return a 404 error:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/tv_transmitters http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/tv_transmitters/tv_digit_full.shtml Apart from this small glitch I have found the information contained in the eBook extremely helpful. Regards, Harryo- Liverpool. Thanks, Harry. I've updated the first page link but I can no longer find the second. The BBC web site is very volatile - it is updated continually and, unfortunately, they tend to delete pages, rather than leaving them blank with a link to the new page. Item C16 2200uf/10v missing (form declared a 16v cap would be supplied). Please accept my apologies for this mistake. I'll post one to you tonight but unfortunately it won't reach you till Monday because I've just missed our last collection. Thanks Martin, I have installed the delivered caps, the problem with my digibox was missing channels, and all is well! I will fit the last cap on receipt to finish the job off. Your site is extremely helpful, I was resigned to a new digibox until I found Satcure. Please count me as a highly satisfied customer, and will be back (along with recommending you to friends & colleagues), Regards Cliff My location is: North Wales mountains! Blimey! After a malevolent avian attack on my defenceless LNB, causing it to fill with water and lose a large number of channels, I was forced to order a new quad from yourselves. I ordered it on Wednesday, forgot (naturally) to order four waterproof 'boots' at the same time, so had to amend the order - all online - and, somewhat optimistically, expected delivery Friday. The delivery people left a note on the Thursday, saying they'd tried to deliver it, but we weren't in (well, I ask you; who seriously expects any company to deliver the next day on an order placed in the afternoon, and include the late amendments?). The boots - being of little value - were there, having arrived in the normal post. The LNB turned up the following day - Friday - by 10.00am, giving me the morning to fit the thing and continue to be amazed at just how efficient your gang is. Well done, folks! Next time, I'll try to remember just how fast you are and sit by the front door immediately after placing an order. Mind you, by then, you'll probably be delivering before I place the order.... Thanks! Ian My location is: Prades France Equipment made by: Grundig Freeview Martin and team. Relkit received installed and mission accomplished. My sincere thanks for your excellent service. Digibox performing as new. Good luck and best wishes to all at Satcure. Malcolm M. Regarding Customer receipt (Keep-me): SA25909053139 Have kept meaning to drop you an email to thank you for the prompt response and great service. I thought I was going to have to buy a new shower unit until I found your web page at http://www.satcure.co.uk/piherpot/index.htm. The potentiometer worked great. Thanks once again Tony T Regarding Customer receipt (Keep-me): SA27120050249 Hi, My box of goodies arrived today, Friday 7th October. Thank you, thank you thank you. Now the fun starts...setting it all up!!!! John. I purchased a Pace "Javelin" Sky minibox from you about a year ago. Just to let you know I have toured all over Scotland using the box with a Zone 2 dish attached to the jockey wheel on the caravan. Managed to set up in about 5 minutes with flawless performance. Great piece of kit. Best wishes George F Regarding Customer receipt (Keep-me): SA25912053357 Thank you very much for the referenced order, it arrived less than 24 hours after I placed it which is astounding! Like a bit of a dolly, one of the family has thrown the instruction sheet out with the packaging. Is it possible to get another copy by e-mail? So sorry for this small nightmare. Yes, no problem. Here it is (attached). Thank you Martin, Nicola was most helpful as, of course, were you. Now off to France and re-install my Sky kit there. I bought your e-book on Sky Digital Installation and found it really useful and, in fact, vital when I initially installed Sky there. I remove the dish and cable each time I leave France. With a Metronic 85cm 'see through' dish bought as complete kit (cheap receiver included) and a cheap double universal LNB bought in OBI it works a treat with my Sky + receiver which I bring back and re-connect to its telephone line in the UK each time I return, usual time of stay is three weeks and full function Sky + is available throughout that time unconnected to a telephone line. My house is near Cahors in SW France. All channels are available and the only slight picture break-up was noticed during severe storms. I shall gradually upgrade this kit over time and hopefully buy it from you. Best wishes and many thanks Christopher F Regarding Customer receipt (Keep-me): SA25823050751 Goods arrived Sat am after order Thurs 11pm. What can I say! Can't fault the service or the product. Many thanks Barry B (top) From Sky Digi Online ( http://www.media247.co.uk ): (top) eBook Updates - The BBC web site has lost/replaced some pages. I've fixed the links in "The Freeview Bible" but I still have to fix them on page five of "Piping TV...". Apologies for the delay but a recent back injury is limiting my time at the computer right now. I hope to be back to normal in a few days.
