When would you use a masthead amplifier like this?

When you want to feed the TV aerial signal to up to four TV sets. Note that this system does not provide any facility for a Return Feed to pipe other signals round the house - it is purely for TV. It can accommodate both analogue and Digital terrestrial signals. If you require a Return Feed so that signals from one receiver (satellite or Freeview) can be piped to other rooms, you should use a Loft Box instead.

By amplifying close to the aerial, the integrity of the signal is maintained and the effects of loss through long cable runs minimised. The fully screened inner case, ABS housing and Supaseal cable entries guarantee full protection to circuitry. UX kits provide the option of multipoint installations with external cabling, often a simpler and tidier solution. A proven range designed with the professional in mind.

The masthead amplifier can be mounted on the aerial mast or in the roof space. It should be mounted as close to the aerial as possible but no closer than 1 metre.

Antiference masthead power supplies are designed 10 inject 12 volts DC onto a coaxial TV aerial cable, in one direction to power a masthead amplifier or similar line powered device with minimal insertion loss. All models have a moulded UK 3-pin plug lifted with a 3 amp fuse. Do not remove the mains plug or wire these units directly into the mains supply. These units must be fused at 3 amps.

Choose a location to fit the unit within reach of a convenient mains socket and avoid tangling the mains and coaxial cables entering and leaving the unit. Do not allow the power supply to hang on its cables as this may cause damage to the cables, connectors or PCB.

Usually the power supply will be fitted behind the main television near the incoming aerial downlead. However it may be possible to fit the power supply in the roof space.

Do not allow soft furnishings such as curtains to cover the power supply and avoid allowing the unit to lie on carpeting where the ventilation holes may become covered. When fined in a roof space, do not allow insulation material to cover the power supply. Roof spaces can become extremely hot in summer!

Mount the power supply securely to a wall or skirting board using the screw slots provided. Take carp mien drilling holes in a wall near to a mains socket not to dnlF into a ring main cable buried in the plaster.

PSF1200 and PS1200 are designed for 12v masthead amplifiers up to a maximum lOOmA load.

All models are short circuit and overload protected and designed for continual use. However, it not good practice to leave any short circuit in place for a prolonged Period.

When a short circuit is present the red "power on LED will be extinguished.

IMPORTANT: When a power supply is used to feed an amplifier upstairs, any wall plate MUST be a non-isolated type, otherwise the aerial signal will get through but the DC power won't. An isolated (decoupled) plate is often marked with a capacitor symbol -||- so if yours has this (or obviously has capacitors fitted inside) don't use it unless you short-circuit the capacitors.

The UX4 kit comprises a UXF4 amplifier with its own power supply unit (PSU) that can be positioned close to the main TV set if desired. The PSU feeds the aerial signal to one TV (usually the main TV) and it feeds power (12 volts) up the coaxial lead to the masthead amplifier. The UX4 has four outputs which can be used to feed signals to the main TV and to other (usually upstairs) TV sets. A Freeview receiver may be connected between the masthead amplifier and each or any TV set. If you connect an FM radio aerial you should use GLO28 UHF + RADIO or equivalent decombiner wall plates to separate the TV and Radio signals.

IMPORTANT

For best results use double-screened coaxial cable such as that on page 8 of our catalogue. Ordinary TV cable will work but it may radiate or let in interference and results can't be guaranteed.

Make sure that the coaxial cable between TV1 and the PSU has good connections at each end. Before powering up, check to ensure that it is not short-circuit or open-circuit. This can be done quite easily with a meter or with a battery, a bulb and a few lengths of wire.
