Exchange Power Supplies

These units are in very short supply. It may take a few days before we can get one to you. Your card will not be charged until the day of shipping. Thank you for your patience. (Please send your old PSU to us immediately. The deposit will not be charged unless our workshop discovers that your old one is unrepairable.)

Q. I sent my old PSU a week ago. When will you return it/ send another?

A. Please state your Recorded Delivery number. If we don't have a PSU in stock, we'll return yours as soon as our repairer has tested and repaired your old PSU. Dependent on the workload, this could be up to a fortnight.

Please pack your PSU in a sturdy box and send it by Recorded Delivery to us at:

RETURNS DEPT SAT.....
SatCure Distribution,
PO Box 73
Oakengates,
TELFORD
TF2 8WR

Be sure to include the "SAT......" order number and a brief note to confirm that this is a faulty unit for exchange.

Please write "RETURNS" followed by the "SAT......" order number on the outside of the packaging above the address.

We recommend that you at least obtain a certificate of posting if you choose not to use Recorded Delivery.

If the rebuilt PSU does not work, please contact our Technical Department with full details of your Digibox model number from the label and the power supplies' identification codes, (new and old) which are usually printed on the printed circuit board.

We have had a few PSUs returned where no fault can be found. This prompts me to suspect that something else is going wrong. Back in the days of analogue satellite TV, Amstrad designed a PSU with a really crappy plug-in connector. It was so bad that we had to solder an additional wire to bypass the 0 volt connection between PSU and mother board!

May I suggest that anyone having problems with a new PSU should try spraying the connector pins with WD-40 (or similar) and reconnecting. Wiggle the plug up and down a few times to clean the pins. It's fragile so do this carefully. The lubrication will make it easier.

I also think the connectors should be sprayed as a matter of course when fitting a new power supply.

If your Digibox is a PVR model, the Hard Drive may also need replacing, since it can be damaged by a failing PSU.

Please note that an upgraded PSU can not be expected to repair ALL possible faults. Other parts on the main board can also fail. Locating and replacing these is beyond the scope of a DIY repair so we recommend you send your Digibox to Digifix if a PSU upgrade doesn't cure your symptoms. (We have an arrangement whereby, if the rebuilt PSU is the culprit, you will not be charged for the repair. So please include the original PSU order number and mention this in your accompanying letter.)

A Beginner's Guide to Receiver Repair

Based on the original "Screwdriver Expert's Guide to Satellite Receivers" this eBook describes the basic components and a typical power supply with diagrams and explanations. Shows how to solder and describes what to check and measure. Includes a basic guide to tracing the cause of a fault. It won't make you an expert but, if you are capable of soldering in components supplied as a kit, it will take you one step further so you understand why you are doing it and even help you figure out other possible fault causes and cures. If you buy a repair kit, you need this eBook.
