Heatshrink Tube

Heatshrink Tubing

Tidy up an F plug by putting heatshrink sleeving over the knurled end. This will also prevent sharp copper wire strands from pricking your fingers.

Slide the sleeving over the knurled section of the plug and apply heat from a cheap paint-stripper gun.

The end result looks neat and professional.

Label your cables and protect with clear heatshrink tube.

Also handy for repairing cable with a damaged sheath. (Not suitable for joining coaxial cable - use a proprer threaded coupler for that).

And for repairing power cables.

Do you cover your metal tools with PVC tape to make them "warmer" and easier to hold?

Does it become sticky and peel off?

Slide a piece of heatshrink tubing onto the handle and apply hot air.

The result is a comfortable, warm handle with a nice feel.

Do you need to protect a label or badge on a stick?
Slide our clear heatshrink tubing over it and apply hot air.

You can protect a stick or cane which is "fraying". Slide a length of heatshrink tubing over it and apply hot air.

The excess can be cut off. This method can also be used to increase the end diameter of a stick which is too small for a standard size ferrule.

The bottom end of a wading staff is weighted with lead to help it sink and to make it hang low in the water so that the fishing line is less likely to tangle round it when using a fly line.

You can also use bands of heatshrink tube for decoration or to secure a hook or loop of leather lace for hanging the stick.

Have you ever needed to repair a garden hose in a hurry? It's not easy is it!

Here's how I do it.

Apply a little silicone rubber ("bath sealant") around the leak point. Slide a length of heatshrink tube over the top of it. Carefully apply hot air to shrink the tube until it's tight. Job done!
