Be careful not to "nick" any of the coloured wires. (Although the crimping tool has a blade to strip the outer sheath, it takes practice to use it successfully). You will see that the wires are twisted together into pairs of solid colour and striped colour-with-white. (The purpose of the yellow thread is to make it easy for you to strip a long section of sheath off. You won't need this so snip it off). Trim the wires to precisely 12.5 mm, ensuring the the cut is exactly at right angles so that all wires are the same length. Look through the bottom of the plug and make certain that the wires are still in the correct order and are far enough in to reach the end of the plug. Hold the cable close to the plug, clip uppermost if using the exact tool shown*, and push the plug into the left side of the front of the crimping tool. *(It will fit only one way in the tool shown but other tools may allow incorrect orientation, so check carefully). Hold the cable in place and squeeze the crimping tool handles firmly. The plastic wedge part of the plug will be forced down to grip the cable sheath and the teeth of the pins will be forced through the insulation to make contact with the copper wires. Look at the top of the plug to ensure that all of the wires are in the correct position. Give the plug a firm tug to make sure it doesn't come loose. If crimping has been unsuccessful, you'll have to start again with a new plug. (The photograph is wrong - the clip should be on top.)
