Safety considerations You must NEVER connect a ground wire to a gas pipe! You must switch the 230v mains power off at the master switch before touching any electrical sockets. A telephone socket is regarded as potentially dangerous because it could be carrying as much as 180 volts if a call is coming in so extreme caution must be taken when connecting wires. DO NOT carry out any electrical work while there is a storm in the area. If an electrical surge does affect your phone line, the surge arrestor components should be replaced. (They usually go short-circuit to protect your equipment and the phone line will no longer work until they are disconnected). Electrical parts may disintegrate explosively if subjected to a high energy surge. The surge arrestor should be positioned where such an effect will not cause secondary damage or injury to any person. Surge arrestors should not be mounted in close proximity to any high voltage wiring. All exposed parts should be insulated after installation. Note: as this is a DIY kit it is obviously not "approved for connection". Guarantee We warrant that the parts are free from defect when supplied. Fitting them as described should not affect the normal operation of your phone line or any connected equipment, even if you have ADSL. However, we can offer NO guarantees that the surge arrestor will give protection under any given circumstances. It WILL absorb a large part of the energy if a high voltage surge comes up the phone line but the outcome depends on the total energy, the voltage risetime, the effectiveness of your earth connection and many other factors. All we can say is that any damage that occurs with the surge protector fitted would probably have been worse without it. Go to catalogue Telephone Accessories page |
