How do I wire my house up for TV?

As a minimum, you need six coaxial cables ( preferably WF100 ) to the main living room, split into sets of three going to opposite corners.

The reason I state this is that you need two SAT cables plus a third cable as a "return feed" to the loft, which will allow you easily to distribute signals to other rooms.

The reason for having two lots of three cables is that you know darn well that your partner will want to switch the furniture round after a year and the TV will end up in the opposite corner!

Other things to consider:-

1. Two cables to each bedroom

2. Telephone points.

3. Additional doorbell upstairs for the children so you aren't having to answer the door every five minutes.

4. Ethernet feeds (CAT5 or 6) so you aren't reliant on a wireless signal for broadband (and conflicts with neighbours broadband signals, DECT phones, wireless weather station etc.)

5. 2 x (CAT5 or 6) feeds for sending HD signals round the house.

6. Intercom from kitchen to wherever you might need a cup of tea.

7. Optical fibre for future proofing.

8. HDMI splitter and extension cables, where practical.

9. Don't forget the kitchen TV, conservatory TV and outside workshop TV.
